Pros: Price for features, LCD remote, Fast DD kick in time, great "enhanced" DD
Cons: Ugly, Sound is a bit hard for music
The Bottom Line: Good system... one of the best in that price range for listening to multi-channel surround movies.. however it lacks when it comes to warm, musical sounding music.

| doooood's Full Review: Yamaha RX-V730 6.1 Channels Receiver |
This receiver i got as a replacement for my Marantz SR-5200 that the store that was fixing it lost. So a lot of my gripes with this are because I am comparing it to the 5200.
The specs on this receiver seem more or less the same as other receivers in the price range, maybe a few more DSP modes, a funkier remote, and the extra channel are nice. This is a 6.1 85wpc DD/DTS receiver... I have it hooked up to a set of Klipsche SF-1's in the front, SS.5's in the back, SC-1 in the center and a Energy S8.2 as the sub. I also tried it with a pair of Athena AS-B2's.
First thing i noticed about this receiver was that it was hard. Music sounded much more harsh than my Marantz or the Denon... and i didn't like it. I wanted to like it, but i just didn't.
Music lacked the depth that i was accustomed to, and I'm not even that big of an audiophile. To a person who's never heard an amplifier that is designed for music, this would sound just great, and for the most part it is, however, at this point i conteplated sending it back in!.... until i popped in a DVD and heard it in Dolby Digital Enhanced mode.
Suddenly my movies were coming alive MUCH more than before on my Marantz. the Enhanced mode is Yamaha's specially juiced up DD5.1... it reprocesses the signal and beefs it up a bit, and it sounds good usually. I was at a point where i needed to decide if i was going to keep this... and i decided yes. Because if i want a really good stereo system for listening to music, I should buy a stereo amp and preamp and do i properly.. this receiver's main purpose is the cinematic experience, and it does it well.
