| kryptonking's Full Review: Rio Cali Sport (256 MB) MP3 Player |
I purchased this player as a replacement to my bulky CD-man. So far, I've been impressed with with it. First, it was made for you to be mobile. The convenient armband allows you to use the player without it getting in your way. The user interface is simple and intuitive; one button to access the menu and another button to cycle through the choices and make selections. The screen has a blue back light with contrasting black lettering that allows you to clearly see your current musical selections in dim lighting. The software was a breeze to install and use, but I was disappointed that in order to begin transferring MP3s to the player, I had to go to their website and download an extremely large software update. This will be an irritation for dial-up Internet users. Other complaints about this are the headphones. They are uncomfortable and aren't capable of transmitting the quality of sound an MP3 is capable of creating. I would highly recommend the purchase of aftermarket headphones. The FM tuner proved to be nearly useless to me on the road. I took it with me on a motorcycle trip and around Richmond, VA I was only able to receive one FM station although I knew there were many available. I thought the problem could be that I was wearing the player underneath my motorcycle jacket, but I discovered that had little to do with it. Once I arrived home, I attempted to tune in to several of the more popular radio stations while I was outside in the garden with the player outside my clothing and again, only a few channels came in clear. If you aren't a fan of olive drab, then I think you will be disappointed with the color schemes for this player as I think it's the only color the 256MB version comes in. With the exception of the few above complaints, I find this player to be durable, easy to use and well worth the money. A recommended buy.
