Pros: Polk Audio, 8" sub, 3 color choices!
Cons: Small satelites.
The Bottom Line: Good starter package, but research past this if your more serious about home theater. This will not do it for you.

| gizmo007's Full Review: Polk Audio RM6700 Speaker System |
THE PRODUCT
This is the polk audio surround speaker package. It contains four satelite speakers, one center channel, and one subwoofer. Its about $500 and is available in black, white, and titanium, it is a nice addition to a home theater, the package gives you a nice subwoofer, a decent center, and some okay satelite speakers.
THE COMPANY
The company is Polk Audio, they are a well known company in the home theater business. They have many great product, they are designed to meet the needs of home electronic fanatics. They are built to last and to be worth the money you spend on them. Polk Audio is up there with JBL, both of these companys will be found in your local movie theaters, so really I think its safe to say your getting theater like sound with Polk Audio.
MY EXPERIENCES
My buddy Matt has these speakers set up in his basement. He had redone his whole downstairs and the Polk RM6700 was the speaker package he got. He had a really nice setup, all black equipment, tv, reciever, speakers, vcr, and dvd player. The movies at his house would sound pretty good, the sound quality was really nice, some of the best, but we could not watch movies at that loud of a volume. But it was still a good experience compared to no speakers.
THE SATELITES
The package comes with four matching satelite speakers. The front speakers and surrounds are all the same speakers. The tweeters are three-quarter inch and the woofers are three-and-a-quarter inchs. The tweeter and woofer are both shielded. The power handling of each satelite is 100 watts. They are designed in the RM6700 package to beable to provide crisper sound and less interference. This works some what, but does not hold true when the volume is up about half way on a 500 watt reciever. Because the woofers are small on the satelites you do not get a full impact of bass coming from all around you.
THE CENTER
The center is almost identical to the satelites but obviously the dimensions are different. If you were to get a three piece speaker package you would get this center and two of the satelites. So it has two three-and-a-quarter inch woofers, and a three-quarter inch tweeter. And yes they are shielded. The power handling of this center is 100 watts, but unlike the satelites this center can handle a little more power.
THE SUBWOOFER
The subwoofer is definetly the best part of the system. The sub that comes with the package is the Polk Audio PSW303. Its woofer is eight inchs, and its power handling is 260 watts. Unfortunetly the sub only has a 100 watt amplifyer built in, but most subs are not usually independantly amplifyed for its total max power. This is the heart of the package, it gives you the much needed bass that you need to enjoy the movies. It cost about half or alittle more of the total price of the full package.
MY OPINION
My feelings on this speaker package is well I am not too fond of it. For the amatuer building a home theater who is not too interested in peak audio performance and absolutly no interference, then he would probably fall in love with the RM6700. It offers him the sound he need and the basics. Also for people will really small rooms, like a small bedroom this package would be great, I would recommend this system for a small bedroom, but other than that I do not recommend this home theater system, or any other of this kind, from many of the companys.
I my self am into buying all the speakers separatly. I have two bookshelf loudspeakers with 6.5" woofers in the back of my room, a center with dual 5.75" woofers, and two tower main speakers with 9" woofers, and 5" woofers each, and a JBL sub. All together it really packs a punch and the speakers max wattage is very high so I can blast them in my decently big rec room and will not hear any interference. Also I can get bass out of even my surround speakers. Thats what I am into, I am into the hardcore speaker setups, and the Polk Audio RM6700, let alone any home theater sub/sat package, could not do it for me. They are two basic and not giving you that great of a experience.
But thats just me, to some the packages would be more than enough. One plus to the RM6700 though is that it is available in so many colors, you have 3 chances for it to match your tv and players. This RM6700 is also very easy to setup, sub is also not very difficult. I do recommend this product but to those who have a small room, or are just looking for a quick home theater surround sound fix. But to everyone else look elsewhere. One thing you can look forward to if you do happen to buy this is a decent subwoofer, it is one that if you get sick of the satelites and center then you can keep the sub, and look around for towers and bookshelf speakers. It is one very solid 8" sub, and it can stay in with any home theater setup.
Some people will enjoy the ease with setting this system up, the satelites are small and shielded so they can be placed anywhere. They can all be wall mounted, but even a bookshelf loudspeaker can be mounted with some effort. I just do not want to see people who really want a good home theater waste $500 to $700 on this package and really only get a worthy subwoofer, people out there you should research many product, I recommend you stay away from the packages, you will end up with a system with far better sound and the price will really not be too much of a difference, well at least you will believe its worth it when your watching a movie and your hair is standing up!
