Pros: multiplayer capability, multi-role, and awesome graphics! Good music, too.
Cons: why did Harabec have to die?
The Bottom Line: Hold onto your hats and move over, Mech Warrior! Starsiege is comin' through with an appetite to crush the competition! In other words, great game!
Hold onto your hats, everyone. This is my first game review, so I'll try to be good.
"When the Dark Intellect escaped the Fire, man stood in the ashes of Mother Earth. For two hundred years, the Immortal Emperor built Earth's armies. But only Earth's.
"Then the colonies of Mars and Venus revolted against unjust Imperial law. Harabec, the greatest Imperial Knight, joined the Rebellion. His brother, Canaan, led the Knights to Mars to suppress it.
"When Promethius attacked again, human blood already stained the ground. Mother Earth lay helpless. The time of terror had indeed returned. I tell the story of the third and final coming of Promethius. I tell the story... of us all."
- opening monologue of Starsiege
In Starsiege, you have the option of controlling one of two types of characters: Humans or Cybrids. As a Human, you are a new recruit (or "duster") for the uprising on Mars colony. The Immortal Emperor has gone too far by making the colony "expendable" and not needing defense from Earth against any Cybrid invasion. Led by Harabec Weathers (voiced by Mark Hamill, The Star Wars Trilogy), you must accomplish two tasks: free Mars and destroy all who get in the way.
As a Cybrid, you are a newly created model sent on a mission with one objective: invade Homeworld/Desire (Earth) and destroy the animals (humans). Led by the first Cybrid, Promethius, you will travel from First World/Mercury, Second World/Venus, and Forth World/Mars, to Titan, Third World/Luna (the Moon), and finally Homeworld/Desire to destroy the leader of the animals and Promethius' creator, the Immortal Emperor Petresun.
As both Humans and Cybrids collide, the final chapter of the battle of Promethius versus mankind is being written.
Will the humans destroy the Cybrids and their technology once and for all? Or will the Cybrids rise up against humanity and overwhelm us until all that is left is blood and the burnt piece of rock called Earth? Only you can determine who's fate will be the end of the Starsiege.
Being the sequel to the popular Earthsiege series, you once again take control of the huge battle machines called H.E.R.C.U.L.E.A.N.'s ("Hercs", for short) and fight for the survival of your species or creations. Armed with many new weapons and an alarming array of Hercs to choose from, you could be a one-man or one-machine army. Who decides? You.
This game is mindboggling! I've played Mech Warrior and compared it to Starsiege over and over and over. By far, Starsiege is the best on my list. The Tutorial section teaches you the basics of the opening menu and all the choices you are presented with. The Training section teaches you how to control your Herc and use certain additions in dire situations, which is a real plus in my book. As far as I know, Mech Warrior has none of that.
For those of you who enjoy a good blow-'em-up game, Starsiege is for you! It surpassed Mech Warrior in my book. Let it do the same for you.
