Sylvania VCR's are Bad News

I have purchased 3 Sylvania VCR's (one was a combo VCR/DVD player) over a period of about 4 years. Each had the exact same problem, which started shortly after the warranty expired (surprise, surprise!): they all gobbled my tapes
(i.e., at some point during either play or record, it would suddenly stop and attempt to eject the tape, but would only succeed in getting it a tiny bit out the tape door. My attempts to push it back in were useless; when I attempted to pull it out, I discovered that the tape was still stuck inside the unit. In each instance, I had to use a pencil to lift the tape up and over whatever it was stuck on, and then I was left with a mangled tape. Attempts to call Sylvania's hotline or leave an e-mail went unanswered (the VCR/DVD unit was bought at Sears who basically said I was out-of-luck). In case you're wondering why I keep buying Sylvania: they are cheap (you get what you pay for!), and, these days, it's hard to find any VCR's at all! I also was naive enough to believe that the first unit's troubles were an accident, and the second a coincidence; but, the third failure with the exact same problem has made me swear off buying any more Sylvania VCR's (for the record, I've only used the DVD part once, and it worked fine). And, yes, I used a cleaning tape, apparently to no avail (repairs would cost more than the unit's original purchase price, and my experience with VCR repairs are that they are rip-offs). I currently have another mfr's VCR (bought a couple of years ago), and it has given me no trouble whatsoever. And, yes, I have had problems with other mfr's VCR's, but none of them ate my tapes. I can't be the only one who has this problem with Sylvania VCR's!
