| golf17331's Full Review: Sharp Aquos LC-22SV2U 22 in. EDTV-Ready TV |
One of Sharp's new widescreen LCD TV's Features an excellent design, but is it worth the high price tag?
Design
The first thing anyone will notice about this TV is its design. The LC22 features a beautiful light-sliver paint job and an Ultra-wide look thanks to its theater-like 16x9 aspect ratio (wide-screen) and its side-mounted tower speakers. This little TV is a full 29.25 inches wide, making it too large for a traditional kitchen, but great for a bedroom. The LC22 features a boomerang shaped stand that supports the screen well, also allowing it to twist nearly 180 degrees to the right and left and also up and down. This lets the TV to be viewed from almost any part of the room. The stand can be taken off, and the TV can then be mounted to a wall via a VESA wall mount (a standard mount for flat screen TVs, they range from 60 - 150 dollars) which even further ads to the TVs versatility. Located on the back of the TV is a handle, which allows the LC22 to be quickly carried from one room to another (It is not very heavy at around 20lbs) which is a really nice and convenient feature. The set itself has only five buttons: Power, TV/Video (allowing you to choose a DVD player, VCR, or cable input), Volume, Channel, and Menu. These buttons are cleverly tucked behind the top lip of the screen, making them invisible from the front. The only bad part about this is that you will have to memorize wear the buttons are if the TV is above head level (since you cant see them from the front) but on the plus side it makes the TV have an even more streamlined and modern appearance. Also tucked on the back are a few heat vents to prevent the TV from overheating. Finally, their are a few LCD lights tucked on the front under the screen to indicate weather the screen is on or in sleep mode.
Picture and Sound
First and foremost: This TV has a bright, beautiful picture. But.... It is not HDTV!! (High definition, which is going to become the standard in 2006 in the United States. Its basically a very high quality TV signal). This is a downfall for the TV at its 1800 dollar price tag, but the TV still looks wonderful using a DVD player or VCR. Also, although the TV is not HDTV, it will still be compatible with HDTV signals through an adaptor from your cable or satellite provider and will look just as nice as a DVD. The picture is ultra-bright and is visible from nearly any angle (170 degrees) and reproduces colors beautifully. The only real problem I had with the picture is that on some ultra-bright colors like white and sun-yellow, the TV made them a bit too bright so it looked odd. This can of course be remedied by adjusting a few settings, so it isnt a big flaw. Oh, by the way, this TV has a 60,000 hour lamp which means that it is designed to last for 60k hours of viewing... which is a very very long time. A great feature! As far as sound goes, the included speakers to a good job of reproducing sound. They are of course stereo and produce great bass, they are pretty clear too (I have heard clearer but not bad). Overall, I was very satisfied by both picture and sound of this TV.
Ports and Inputs
Hidden under two panels in the back are several different inputs. It features one of the newer types of inputs called component inputs (it has one) which are great for future TV signals and progressive scan DVD players alike. It also has two traditional composite inputs (also known as RCA inputs, the normal yellow, red, and white plugs) for DVD or VCR input, an S-video input for high quality VCR, DVD, or camcorder transfer, and your traditional normal cable TV input for your cable or satellite. This is more than enough ports for the average user.
Final Word
The sharp Aquos LC22 is a modern, versatile TV that is designed to please ... but at an 1800 price tag it may be a pleasure you should wait on: with LCD TV prices tumbling... this TV will drop by hundreds in the upcoming year. Overall though, with only a few flaws, I can do nothing but highly recommend this TV.
