Pros: looks good, two handsets.
Cons: static 24/7
The Bottom Line: I returned my Uniden, I suspect I'm not going to be alone- thank you Home Depot for a good return policy!

I wanted to like this phone. I found it at a good price at Home Depot (yea, I know, not the best source for electronics, but the deal was good). My wife and I have been through so many phones I really wanted this one to work. With two handhelds I thought we would finally solve the problem of searching for the portable.
Unfortunately within a few days we were searching for our old handheld- a 900Mhz Panasonic with the broken antenna- to get better reception.
The problem was with a consistent static on both units. The static persisted throughout the house, anywhere from 1' away from the base to 100' away. We thought the static might be caused by where we put the base, but changing the location did nothing.
Now, I do have a wireless network- the old HomeRF system. I suspected that the problem could be caused by interferance from my network; however, turning off the HomeRF seemed to do nothing.
I must admit is that I have bought 3 other phones that had limited functionality in my home:
1. An SBC 900Mhz dual line $200 unit that was every bit as bad as the Uniden 2.4Ghz.
2. A 900Mhz Uniden, I don't remember the model since it was purchased and returned 2 years back- same static problem.
3. A radioshack ET-2101 that works most of the time; however, its range is limited and the volume is too low. I still use it when working in the yard since it has a nice belt clip and headset (the headset's volume works great with my panasonic phone)
4. A Panasonic. This one worked without static for almost 2 years, but lately has had trouble getting a full charge and will get static in some of the far corners of our 1800sq ft house (this may be caused from a loose antenna).
I did have luck with an old panasonic 900Mhz KX-TC1450B unit I bought about 3 years ago. The antenna completely broke off with that one and it still worked great. we finally had to replace it when the battery cover broke and we had to use tape to keep the battery in.
Long story short, I have some history with portable phones, most of it bad; however, the Panasonics have worked so I know it is not just my location.
