*UPDATE* February 10, 2006
-I have had this MP3 player for 2 years now and i have to reclaim most of what i have said. Within this time span the battery cover has completely worn which has disconnected the hinges so I have to tape it shut. It randomnly shuts off and freezes with a single line running across the screen, and when i'm running, the earbuds fall out of my ears(easily fixed by purchasing better headphones, but shouldn't an MP3 player come with decent headphones). This player can only hold about 40 songs... for most thats just not enough. I'd say with the new ipod's out, with all the new video features, it would be a much better deal to buy a brand name MP3 player than this one.
-------------------------------------------------
I had never heard of Verge before I purchased this product. I did much research and I discovered that this MP3 player is the best for what I was looking for.
STYLE: This MP3 player is sleek and is shaped like a cylinder. It is silver and gray very cool looking!
For a 3D picture of this player visit circuit city's website. (www.circuitcity.com)
QUALITY: It has excellent sound quality and the headphones that come with it seem of very good quality also. The MP3 player is nearly weightless, yet it is very durable. It also comes with a carrying case that seems to hold up against rugged conditions. The only problem with sound quality is that of voice and radio recordings. They sound horrible, but no worries, most people use their MP3 players for listening to downloaded music(this is what I do).
PERFORMANCE: Because MP3 players have no moving parts, the songs wont skip, so the MP3 player is excellent for exercising. This Verge MP3 player comes with an armband that you can use to attach the MP3 player to your arm while jogging/exercising.
ACCESSIBILITY: Even with the case on, all but one button is accessible and this is the hold button which is not used unless you want to lock your player. The backlight is an excellent feature!!! The screen is impossible to see in the dark, but once you turn on the backlight there are no problems whatsoever.
CONVIENENCE: With Plug-&-Play for Windows Me, and Windows XP, you can easily have 20 songs on the player in the first 15 minutes of opening it. You can also store data on your player and I have found that to be very convenient.
FEATURES: Supports MP3, WAV, and WMA files USB cable for quick uploads and downloads Built in FM tuner Voice Recorder Record songs straight off the radio Upgradeable 6 different equalizer settings: normal, rock, ultra bass, jazz, classic and pop 7-color backlight display: purple, white, blue, green, red, yellow, and light blue Programmable Play lists Power saving feature that automatically shuts player off when idle for 3 minutes - low battery indicator DATA FILE STORAGE!!! Whenever you go on a long road trip and do not have access to a computer, the record straight off the radio feature is great. The quality that the song is recorded in is bad but you get to listen to your favorite song!
THE FEW BAD THINGS ABOUT THIS PLAYER: When I turn the player on and off, it makes odd noises, but it is no big deal. The customer service is terrible. You can visit their website here, www.avctechnology.com, but I wouldnt bother. I emailed them with a question a month ago and still havent gotten a response. Also, the voice recorder and recording music straight off the radio are mediocre quality. Many times the recordings sound fizzy and very deep(low), and can become annoying/hard to listen to.
INCLUDED ACCESSORIES: Earphones, USB Cable, Installation CD, Carrying Pouch, Arm Band, User Manual, and one AAA battery.
To sum it all up, I recommend you buy this product because it has been very reliable for me, and it looks great! The backlight is a necessity, and if for some reason you decide not to purchase this player, make sure you purchase one with a backlight or you will be disappointed. The headphones included are excellent and the case deserves just as much credit. I use it while I excercise, mow the lawn, go on trips, and when I just feel like getting away from realty and enjoying some of my favorite music. The price and the quality of this MP3 player meet at an equilibrium and this player is probably the finest one around at this price.
