Pros: Reliable; Durable; Configurable; good wide angle, macro
Cons: Slow; No real zoom; bug in auto-shutoff
The Bottom Line: Recommended for a low cost, flexible, durable camera for adverse conditions, because it has served me well. I wouldn't risk taking my better cameras on a trail maintenance trip.

| jchamml's Full Review: Vivitar ViviCam 3620 Digital Camera |
I bought this product on a whim several years ago, for my wife as a Christmas gift, from Sams club, for $79. She wouldn't use it, and when her film camera broke on an overseas trip, most of our pictures ended up coming from this camera. Well, she has upgraded to a higher end digital, and this one has degenerated to my "trail" camera. I carry it in the original belt pouch, and it has fallen in mud, bounced on rocks, and suffered other abuses, but it continues to work. It takes good pictures if you have the patience to frame them good, even macro pictures.
If you don't turn it off, it goes into power save mode, from which you must then turn it off, and then back on, before it will work again, and this is annoying. It also has the annoying but common, push halfway to focus, then all the way to take, picture button. I prefer an infinity focus to be default, except in portrait or macro mode.
It takes the picture right away fast if it is already focused, but it still takes a couple of seconds to compress and save it off to the compact flash memory card, and if you are using flash, a few more seconds to recharge the flash. If you didn't focus first, then you may not get what you thought you took a picture of, since it takes a second or so to focus.

Amount Paid (US$): $79 This Camera is a Good Choice if You Want Something... Flexible Enough for Enthusiasts
