Yes, I was one of those investors the fell into the Boston Chicken Hype 5 years ago. I bought the stock, watched it soar and then crash and burn. We’ll maybe the company had problems keeping its book keeping in order, but they still know how to put out a top notch product in their restaurants.
For those of you who don’t know, Boston Market specializes in the home cooked meal replacement market. They started out just selling rotisserie chicken and have expended into Turkey, Ham and Meatloaf and more. All meals also come with two side dishes of a wide variety of vegetables, pastas, salads and starches. My favorites include the creamy spinach soufflé and the butter nut squash.
They of course still have the staples of macaroni and cheese and mash potato and gravy and stuffing. They have over 25 different selections to choose from. For lunch they you can turn each meal choice into a sandwich called a Carver. The Meatloaf sandwich with the special sauces is really good. (and messy).
While the food is great, the service is sometimes very slow. Because the dinners and sandwiches are made to order, a line can quickly form at dinner-time. You can watch you chicken actually being taken off the Rotisserie and sliced up for your consumption.
Their chicken was what launched their business. Its is still delicious and juicy with a very tasty glaze on the skin. The meat comes easily off the bone, which makes it easy to eat with one hand. “You don’t have to be truly “carnivorous” to eat it.
All meals also come with their special corn bread. Its some tasty treat.
The prices for individual dinners and sandwiches range from 4 – 6 dollars. This is slightly higher than fast food, but the quality is certainly superior.
I have found the restaurants themselves to be fairly clean and the staff to be friendly. (obviously that will vary between sites)
Side note: McDonalds Corp just purchased Boston Market, but gave us stockholders zippo for are remaining worthless shares of stock. Hopefully McDonalds can keep this very good franchise afloat.
Conclusion: If you want a home cooked meal with out cooking, then Boston Market is a stop you want to make.
