The Bottom Line: The best place to eat, great food and a great price (except for their store).

| Doodlebug's Full Review: Cracker Barrel |
As a self proclaimed "pancake freak", I make a point of eating at Cracker Barrel whenever I can. The closest one is about 30 miles away, but I don't let a little driving stand between me and my breakfast platter. The food is great, the atmosphere and feel of the restaurants are nice, and the price isn't too bad either. Yes, I know all about Cracker Barrel's "dirty little secret" (I'll get into that one later), but I don't plan on stopping my visits.
The store: More times than not, you will have to wait to be seated at Cracker Barrel, but usually not too long. While you are waiting, spend some time checking out their country store. The store is packed with all kinds of over-priced, country-type items, everything from cookbooks to crafts to dolls and bears. They even have jams and jellies and pancake mixes for those who wish to take a little of Cracker Barrel's fine tasting food home with them. They have toys and candy for the kids, scented candles for the women, and high prices that the men will refuse to pay, but will anyway once the women and children start pouting (trust me, I know).
The atmosphere: An overall nice feel. From the store to the dining area itself, everything has a nice down home, friendly feel to it. I have yet to meet a waitress at Cracker Barrel that was anything less than pleasant, and although the place is always packed, there is enough room between tables where you don't get that "crammed-together" feeling. The walls are covered with old time ads for all types of products, along with numerous antiques and oddities that almost make you feel like you are inside an old general store, or maybe an extremely busy flea market. You don't have too much trouble from all the children, they are too busy playing the peg games that are found on every table (I love these games, so I usually stay pretty quite too).
The food: The food at Cracker Barrel is some of the best I have ever eaten, or at least the pancakes are, I normally don't eat anything else. They have a large variety of foods to choose from, from good old country cooking to cheeseburgers and fries. If you are not a "pancake freak" like me, I suggest the meatloaf and steak fries, not too shabby. Cracker Barrel also offers the best tasting grape soda I have ever tried, and their iced tea is pretty good as well. The price is pretty reasonable, my wife and I never spend over $20 on a meal, which is good since I will wind up spending about $400 on some candy, a beanie baby and a antique-looking butter dish in the store.
The dirty little secret: If you have read the epinion written by morgan19, you know about Cracker Barrel's past of terminating employees who are gay. I can assume that morgan19 is correct since I have heard this story before from other people. Firing employees that are gay is wrong, and I find it disturbing that people in this day and age would still treat homosexuals like that. The people who do this, and the people that passed the rule allowing them to do this, should all be treated the same way, they should be fired.
Just don't fire the cooks, because I'm still gonna keep on eating those pancakes.
