Fricker's is a casual restaurant/bar and grill that's best known for its chicken wings. This restaurant was founded in 1985 by Ray and Teresa Frick (can you imagine going through childhood with a last name like that!) and it has grown to a total of eleven locations: ten in western Ohio, and one in Richmond, Indiana.
Overview of this Restaurant:
Fricker's is a family restaurant/tavern and the interior is usually very large, with plenty of televisions for watching sports. Because of the abundant seating, you can feel confident, when you visit Fricker's, that there won't be any wait in line. The exception to this rule is on Friday and Saturday nights, when it's common to experience a short waiting period.
The seating in Fricker's consists of tall and short tables, and no booths. The seats are wooden and hard (unless you sit at the bar) and the taller tables use stools with no backs. These stools can become quite uncomfortable, after a while, and they should be avoided if you have any kind of back trouble. Some locations also feature an outdoor patio, which is open about 4 to 5 months per year (remember: this is Ohio!) during the warmer months.
Food:
Fricker's menu is not very extensive, when compared to some of the better restaurants, but it's just as good as many other bar and grills. They serve appetizers, dinners, sandwiches, and salads. There is also a kids menu. The appetizers are generous in proportion, and some of them can easily serve as a full meal, all by themselves. Some examples would include the Nachos Supreme and the Chilli Cheese Fries. Both of these appetizers are very large and very filling. Other appetizer options, like onion straws, breaded veggies, and soup are smaller and won't spoil your appetite.
Fricker's specialty is its chicken wings, served with one of seven different BBQ sauces. These sauces range from mild, to medium, to hot, to extremely hot! You can order chicken wings in 10 piece, 20, piece, or 50 piece servings. You can also buy a jar of your favorite sauce, to go.
Dinners and sandwiches make up the bulk of the menu at Fricker's. Some of the dinner options include Chicken Fillet Strip Dinner, Fried Shrimp Dinner, and New York Strip Dinner. On the sandwich menu, you have choices like hamburgers, cheeseburgers, B.L.T., Ham and Cheese, Turkey, and a few others. If you're a vegetarian, Fricker's doesn't offer many options without meat. Even the salads contain meat, as a standard ingredient. You would have to order just side items, or order a salad and ask them to exclude the meat.
For beverages, Fricker's offers a full service bar and a wide assortment of soft drinks. The soft drinks (except for juice and milk) all include unlimited refills.
Service:
Service at Fricker's is often less than adequate. One of the restaurant's official claims is that it's a "relatively full service restaurant". I don't know if they meant this as a joke or what (I would sure hope so!), but the service is often not that good. When the restaurant is full, waitresses often get a little confused. They work several tables at once and they sometimes forget to check back as often as they should, to see if you need something else to drink, some more food, etc.
Decor:
The decor at Fricker's is pretty ordinary, with no theme or decorations. People usually go to Fricker's for the sports and for the relatively low prices on food and drink. As I stated before, these restaurants are usually very large and they are usually full of lively crowds of people. I guess what the owners had in mind, when it comes to atmosphere, is that the patrons will entertain themselves, watch sports, and drink beer. There isn't much else to say about the atmosphere.
Special Notes, Tips or Menu Recommendations:
Fricker's is an average establishment. There isn't really anything unique about this restaurant at all. There are plenty of other bar and grill- type restaurants around the country which, I'm sure, are every bit as good as Fricker's, and many are probably even better. The main thing that Fricker's has going for it are the low prices. Most every item on the menu is priced below $10, and several of the sandwiches are not priced much higher than a fast- food restaurant burger.
If you're in western Ohio, and your eye happens to catch a Fricker's restaurant, then stop by and check it out. But don't go out of your way to come here. It's just another bar and grill, with nothing unique to offer.
