I'll admit it, although I enjoy eating at fine restaurants and brewpubs, at times I get a a craving for fast food. With three kids, it's a necessity, a meal at an upscale establishment can break the bank for a family of five. And at lunch time, a quick fast meal can really fit the bill. When it comes to roasted chicken, my preference generally goes to Boston Market. You just can't beat the fresh made sides, real mashed potatoes, great vegetables, delicious corn muffins. Sometimes though I want fried chicken, and KFC sets the standard for that locally (no popeyes around). Original or extra crispy, I usually end up getting both because I can't decide. Both are delicious, the cole slaw is too, the biscuits are good, and the mashed potatoes and gravy are a classic. OK, I hate instant mashed, but these have always tasted good to me. I remember reading about the first KFC to open in China (they used to call it Kentucky Fried Chicken in those days). They couldn't make the potatoes and gravy fast enough.
Recently, KFC has improved their sandwich lineup. The barbecue, tender roast, and original recipe are all delicious, but it's the Triple Crunch sandwiches that I go for every time. I like spicy food and the Zinger isn't bad, spicier than most other chain's fare (except Popeye's). The newest creation features three huge strips with cheese and barbecue sauce on a fresh Pepperidge Farms roll. The chicken just overflows from the roll, this is one satisfyingly large sandwich. Add to it an order of potato wedges that beat anybody's fries in a combo and you've got a great lunch. The Colonel would be proud.
