| Cherrycola60's Full Review: Papa John's Pizza |
The first time I tried Papa John's pizza was about two years ago when I refused to eat anything but Pizza Hut. I was not completely drawn in at first. Papa John's did not have pan pizza or the grease that I had come to know and love. About a year later, I gave Papa John's another try and to my amazement, I loved it.
Placing Orders
I prefer to place my orders over the phone. I feel that if I am kind and considerate to people in the store, they will be more willing to give me a special that is not offered online or on the pizza boxes. The employees are usually very helpful in trying to help me place an order and are very polite about putting me on hold.
Delivery
Most Papa John's stores do not have delivery fees. I have found that my local Papa John's will deliver even when there is a foot of snow. They even continue to deliver when there are parades (the store is located in the area that is blocked off for parades, I do not know how they avoid it, but I'm thankful that they do). My pizzas usually get to me about 30 minutes after I order them. I have found that most of my local delivery drivers are very nice, especially if you are nice to them and try to make conversation.
Quality
Papa John's pizza looks much healthier than any other I have ever had. The crust is delicious and there are more types of dipping sauces to choose from than in most stores (cheese sauce, ranch, garlic, buffalo, barbeque, honey mustard, marinara, but unfortunately no blue cheese). I usually get a lot of my toppings and they are distributed evenly. When there is a problem with the quality (even if the crust is just ugly) they usually have no problem with sending out a free one right then or the next time I order.
Sizes
The large and extra large pizzas are about the same size as most other pizza chains. They only offer small, large, and extra large leaving the people who want mediums to choose between small and large. Large is usually the best choice when this problem arises. There are always specials on large pizzas and rarely any on smalls making the price about the same for a discounted large as it is for a regular priced small.
Side items
Bread Sticks
These are my least favorite of the sides. They are simply pizza crust without the sauce residue (which is what I feel makes the crust taste so good). They are the cheapest of the side items, but are too plain for my liking.
Cheese Sticks
This is a wonderful side item. It is definitely not healthy, but it is very good. Cheese sticks are a small pizza with garlic sauce (instead of pizza sauce) that goes all the way to the edges and covered in cheese. They are gooey and delicious.
Chicken Strips
They taste great, but I feel they are over priced. If you are picking up your pizza, I would suggest that you stop by Wendy's and pick up about the same amount, similar quality, for about $5 less.
Drinks
Please pay attention to how much two liters cost. Two to three dollars is a rip off. You should stop by a gas station or a grocery store, or better yet drink water. The 20 oz. drinks cost about as much as you would pay for them anywhere else so if you must go with a soft drink, that would be the route to go.
