| mcoley's Full Review: Saltgrass Steakhouse |
My favorite restaurant used to be Outback Steakhouse. And then came Saltgrass...
There are so many great food selections, from appetizers to steaks to dessert, that you'll have to pick and choose. If you try to eat an appetizer, meal, and dessert, you'll leave miserably full.
For an appetizer, the Shrimp & Chicken Enbrochette is hard to beat. Each one is a shrimp and a piece of chicken, wrapped in bacon, seasoned, grilled to perfection, and served with a spicy Border Sauce.
The steaks are very tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The garlic butter and seasoning really accent the flavor. My favorite cut is the Ribeye. I've tried them all, though, and even the Top Sirloin (their cheapest cut) is great. The Ribeye has the most flavor and is a decent size (12 oz. or 16 oz.). I could eat more, but then I wouldn't have room for dessert.
One of my wife's favorites is their Hickory Chicken. I just can't see going to a steakhouse and ordering anything other than steak, though. ;)
Most of their meals come with your choice of soup or a salad. I highly recommend the Chicken Tortilla soup.
Also included with a meal is your choice of several varieties of potatoes, rice, or vegetables. One of their house specialties is Romano Potatoes. It's kind of a potato casserole, with cheese, bacon, etc. Very tasty!
Try to save room for dessert, because you HAVE to try their Two Fork Cheesecake, drizzled with white chocolate. They call it Two Fork Cheesecake for a reason. Make sure someone else at the table is willing to split it with you. It's huge!
As with any restaurant, I'm sure that the service varies from location to location. We've been to the one in Arlington, TX, several dozen times, and only had a service problem once. All of the other times the service was fantastic.
Food this good comes with a price. For the two of us, the total bill including two dinners, sodas, either an appetizer or dessert, tax, and a generous tip, it usually costs us at least $50. Although that's a little higher than most chain steakhouses, the food rivals restaurants that charge twice as much.
On weekends and holidays, the wait is often an hour or longer. I've seen waits on weekdays, too, but it's usually reasonable.
