| pcomsec's Full Review: First Union Center |
Last night I had the incredible opportunity to attend the AC/DC concert at the First Union Center (or F.U. Center as it is affectionately called). See my review of the concert if you want to know how it was – hint, hint FABULOUS.
But back to the F.U. Center. This was the first time I had been to the F.U. Center (sorry, I just love saying that!). I don’t know how much it cost, but it was grand.
First the parking - there’s free parking if you feel like walking a mile - I do not thank you very much, so we paid $8 to park 3 car lanes away from an entrance. I don’t get parking that good at my local mall (but then again, I don’t have to pay $8 there either).
Everything was incredibly clean - with the exception of some spilled beer inside and various trash in the parking lot when we left – seeing as many people were tailgating before the concert.
There were still remnants of the Republican National Convention around which was held there several weeks ago - from ads inside the building to several signs outside. Also, I’m pretty sure that the confetti that was fired during the last song of the encore was recycled from the convention.
Prices inside were, as expected, high. $5 for a cup (of beer, although it was a 16 oz cup), a bottle of water for $4, I believe sodas were $2.25 for a small, but I’m not 100% sure. What amazed me was the food choices. It was almost like a food court inside - with KFC, and hot chocolate, pretzels, candy, popcorn, nachos. Oh and then there was a small bar/restaurant off to the side where you could sit down and have a “real” dinner or whatever. I didn’t check out the prices there, we just got the beer at the popcorn/candy stand, but my friend said it was about $10 for a beer in there - although the selection was better and you could get a bottle of beer, not just a cup.
The bathrooms were clean, not counting toilet paper on the floor in some, and the bathrooms themselves were plentiful with special “in” and “out” doors to keep traffic moving. I was in 2 different ladies’ rooms and there were about 12-15 stalls in each, with 5 sinks. They even had the “potty seat liners” in each stall that is much appreciated in a public toilet.
The merchandise areas were orderly and called “Fan Zones”. I glanced at the shirts, but no way in heck was I paying $32 for a concert t-shirt. The $45 a ticket was enough (although I ended up paying $60 where I got them from.)
Leaving the concert was orderly, except of course, getting out of the parking lot did take about 10 minutes. Not too bad, I guess.
So did I enjoy the F.U. Center (yep, there I said it again!), yes, it was clean, nicely laid out and easy to see the band. Virtually all the seats were good and there were several video screens around the inside of the arena. Will I go again? Yep, next time AC/DC’s in town, I’ll be there!!!
