| motovatin's Full Review: Notre Dame Stadium |
I attended the Notre Dame vs. Boston College game on Nov. 11, 2000 and although I may be biased because I'm a lifelong Notre Dame fan, any fan of football and college athletics cannot help but feel a sense of history and tradition when attending a Notre Dame football game.
The electricity on the campus on gameday rivals the campuses of football crazy universities such as Tennessee and Auburn.
Come early to the stadium to take advantage of parking on campus where a huge tailgating party has already begun.
We arrived 5 1/2 hours before game time and the party was in full swing. If you arrive much later than this, chances are you will be parking off-campus. As game time gets closer, the police begin to restrict traffic around the stadium making travel more difficult.
Another reason to get there early is to have time to walk around the beautiful campus. One can really feel the sense of tradition when walking around the campus.
The only other time we went to a ND game was in 1996 and we took the time to walk around the campus before game time. We happened upon the Notre Dame band performing its traditional pep rally songs. That will really pump you up!
We did not tour the campus this time. We stayed at the car and "tail-gated" with thousands of other fans. I was pleased to see that the few BC fans that were there were treated with respect so fans of ND's opponents, do not fear!
Our seats were near the top on around the 15 yard line but were still good seats. We had no problem seeing anything. I did catch myself several times searching for a replay screen. Surely one day Notre Dame will add a nice screen.
The food venues were adequate. We found that if one food line was very long the next venue would be much smaller.
Restrooms: For the men it took about 15 mins if you went during the middle of the game. I'm sure it was much longer at halftime. The facilities are antiquated (i.e. horse trough!)
The ladies who were with us took much longer to use the facility which is typical of some of the older stadiums.
The only thing that disappointed me was the incredible mess left on the parking lots and fields after the game. I have never seen a place that was trashed so much. Beer cans, liquor bottles, plates and food were all over the place.
Of course the tailgaters are partly to blame but I also fault the school for not having enough trash cans or dumpsters available to throw away the mess. In fact, I did not see any cans at all.
Overall though, the experience was great. If you are a Notre Dame fan or if you are not a Notre Dame fan but are a fan of college football, you must make it a point to experience a game in person.
