| schopin's Full Review: Trans World Dome |
During four years living in St. Louis, I have attended many events at the TWA dome from football games to wrestling events. I have also toured around the country, visiting many sporting venues along the way. Because of the experience I believe that I am qualified to say that the TWA dome may be the worst new stadium that I have ever visited. New arenas around the country each have a defining characteristic to them that makes them unique. Camden Yards, Banc One Ballpark, Tampa Bay's new stadium (sorry the name escapes me), each provide an extra special touch to the experience that the TWA dome does not. I believe that it even withdraws form the experience. The architecture of the stadium, while quite practical, provides no unique experience onto itself. While it is conveniently located in downtown St. Louis, a location itself is not enough to make a sporting experience. I guess it is a good thing that the Rams had such a weak division this year to draw people, but during the years of their dismal performance, many a fan would sleep during the game because the acoustics in the dome do not allow noise to travel well, like it does in the Metrodome. In conclusion, as an event onto itself, the TWA dome lacks luster. It is a good thing the Rams make up for it.
