| jackie34's Full Review: Ryanair |
My partner and I fly with Ryanair about 10 times each year, and we have never had any problems, but then maybe we don't look for them. Check-In beats BA by a mile, with Ryanair you queue for the flight on which you are booked, with BA it's every flight that leaves that day and about 3 check-in staff for the lot. Ryanair don't over sell the seats either, so once your seat is booked and paid for it's definitely yours.
The non-allocation of seats I also find a boon. Instead of people having to climb over other passengers to get to their allocated seat, or asking people to move because they've sat in the wrong place, you just get on board, either at the front or rear of the plane and sit down. It's quicker and more efficient. After all you're only on the plane for a couple of hours at the most, so does it really matter where you sit. Families with children board first so they are always able to sit together.
Ryanair staff, in our experience, have always been friendly and helpful. I've seen passengers being rude to them but the crew are invariably polite.
We tend to fly to Scandanavia on most of our trips, to airports which often lack more than basic facilities and are further away from the city centres than the one's used by national airlines. We have found that there is always a bus waiting to take us on to our destination, and as the airport has only one plane at a time to deal with our luggage is through in no time. I doubt if you landed at a major airport in any european country that within half an hour of your plane landing you would be on your way in a comfortable coach to the city centre. Who needs more than basic facilities in an airport where you will spend hardly any time, a toilet and a cafe is ample.
Seat room on the plane is tight, but no worse than lots of package flights, and again Ryanair flights are fairly short, so saving maybe £100 per head is worth the loss of a few inches.
Another complaint is Ryanair's no refund policy and their lack of customer service. Twice last year I asked for refunds from Ryanair, once because we were booked on a Buzz flight and the second time because they changed the flight times. In both instances my money was returned immediately, no questions asked. They apologised to me and were very helpful. Another time my flight time was changed they sent me two emails and then phoned to make sure I knew my flight was leaving one hour later than previously advised. Not bad for an airline that doesn't give a damm apparantly.
Finding the cheap flights isn't always straight forward but once you subscribe to their emails then you will hear in advance of any offers. It's not always best to book a long time in advance for the cheapest fare, and sometimes you are better off paying for each leg of your holiday as a single ticket, as fares vary from country to country. Patience is what is needed along with determination and TIME.
All in all we think that so many people expect to pay nothing and get everything, Ryanair doesn't work like that. You pay the basic and that is what you get, no frills, no freebies, just a 'bus' journey from A to B.
