I believe TACA is a good airline to choose when your flight will originate and end in Central America. I choose this airline over American or Continental everytime because they have a various fly out times during the day. You can choose flights in the morning, mid morning and evening.
Their prices are at par with those of other airlines, but they do overcharge in routes where they have little or no competition.
They have renovated and standardized their whole fleet to Airbus A320 aircraft. They are regular sized craft, with a little more room than the seats in AA or Continental. They have onboard entertainment which features cable TV shows on short flights and movies on longer flights, as well as a limited choice of music.
They do not serve food anymore, just peanuts. You can opt to buy a light meal if you want to.
Their counter agents are very friendly, polite, helpful and their appearance is appealing. The same goes for the flight crew.
In my flights out of Tegucigalpa, the maximum delay was 15 minutes according to the departure time stated on the boarding pass but all of the flights arrived on time at US airports, getting to the gate was another thing but they have no control over ground traffic at US airports.
You can take a regular carry on bag when flying from Central America to the US, but not back. Most of the time they will make you check it at the gate, so always carry a lock. When flying from the US to Central America, they will always tell you one bag is priority and the other is not, but they always seem to get there. I'm talking about suitcases, this does not apply to those long army bag type bags or backpacks and boxes. Those do tend to stay behind.
I would rate TACA at par with American, except a little less rigid, but still very formal.
