I think this must be the worst airline ever. In September 2005 I wanted to book a vacations package with America west vacations to Aspen, Colorado. However, America west vacations do not offer a package deal to aspen Colorado so I only booked my flight through America west airlines. I booked a non refundable non transferable flight for almost 600 per person in September for travel on Christmas week. Unfortunately on Christmas Eve we had a serious family emergency - my husbands mother, who is terminally ill, became gravely ill and her doctor advised us to stay at her bedside. The hotel people were so nice; upon receipt of the note from her doctor they refunded our entire stay. America west credited us the flight with a year extension which I understand is standard, and after sending in her doctors note, decreased the change fee on a future flight from 100/pp to 50/pp.
My husbands mother spent nearly 3 months in the hospital and now is permanently on an oxygen tank.
Now almost 8 months later, I wanted to plan a weekend getaway for us for Labor Day weekend in Vegas. I logged on to the America west (America west and us airways now since the merge) website to check some vacation package deals and I found that for the 1300 dollars we can fly to las Vegas and stay 4 nights at the bellagio. I figured this is great and I felt some relief since finally something to get excited about for the past year.
I called America west on the telephone and they passed me around from America west airlines to America west vacations operators, back and forth, back and forth. I spent nearly and hour with each of them while being told that America west and America west vacations are separate and monies from one or other could not be exchanged, before finally being told to call customer relations if not satisfied.
I just didnt get it... why couldnt I fly with the same airline and put some of the faire for the flight towards the hotel...?? NO... Ok fine... how about I get my monies refunded?? NO...ok fine, how about i get some extension to use the rest of my monies for future travel? No... Ok... now this is starting to get ridiculous. SO I call customer relations.
After spending already 2 hours on the phone with the others, I spoke with a man named Phil.
At first he was very nice and seemed compassionate towards my situation. He even said to me "I don't understand why it can't be done... it doesn't seem like a big deal, let me check on this for you". Apparently he called the America west vacations people and then he came back on the phone and said "sorry, we can't do anything for you, travel somewhere else, like go to Mexico or etc so you can use all your monies before the ticket expires."
I asked him if there was anything else he could do, for example, if possible to allow me to use 400 dollars of the ticket to travel to Las Vegas and extend the rest for future travel. He said No.
Then he started yelling at me and saying that he has to go and that we are going in circles and that he has other customers to help and that I am taking up his time and that there is nothing he can do. And then he hung up on me.
This is the last time I or anyone I know will travel with America west or US Airways, ever. This company doesn't care about its passengers. God forbid something happens on their flights... how will they treat their passengers...They are no doubt the worst humans on earth.
