| Buzzmister's Full Review: Celebrity Mercury |
During the 1999 Spring Break, I went on the Celebrity Mercury cruise ship. We were scheduled for two days at sea, and to stop at the Grand Caymans, Calica, Cozumel, and Key West. We departed From Ft. Lauderdale.
When we first arrived at the airport, we met up with a personnel from Celebrity who took us to the bus that was taking us to the ship. We didn't need to pick up our bags at luggage claim, because as with most cruise ships, they take your bags to the ship for you. We waited for a while, and then they finally loaded us onto the bus. It was a short bus ride, and the driver gave us a short tour of the area.
When we finnally got to the port, we had to wait in a huge room until it was our turn to board the ship. It took forever, but the announcer finally called our number. We did all the check in stuff and boarded the ship.
As we stepped onto the boat, we stared in awe as we saw the huge ship's interior. It looked like we were going on it's maiden voyage. The carpets looked new, everything was washed and polished, and all the crew were very friendly. It seemed as though the crew had cleaned the boat once a day, that was how clean it was. We went to our rooms, and they looked even cleaner then the main hall. The rooms were small, and so was our porthole, but what do you expect on a boat.
Our cabin attendant was very nice and got us anything we wanted. He cleaned our rooms very nice, and his attitude was respectable. He seemed to enjoy working there.
The cruise had plenty of excursions to choose from if you wanted to do one anywhere. They had things like sailing, snorkeling, visiting Mayan ruins, scuba diving, and much more. My personal favorite was swimming with the dolphins. The ports we stopped in were very clean and well maintained except for Calica, which was basically a hole dug in the coast big enough to put a boat in.
All meals were included in the price of the cruise, and you could have as much of it as you wanted. There was always a place to find food, and all roomservice was included also. Lunch and Breakfast were first come first serve, but dinner you needed reservations for. We had reservations at the early seating. Our waiter was just as nice as our cabin attendant, and the food was excellent.
The boat itself was pretty motionless, and it was hard to get seasick on. The stores on board had all the neccesities you needed, and were reasonably priced. There was always something to do on board whether it be swimming in the salt water pools, or gambling in the casinos. It was a great trip and I would do it again in a second.
