Windjammer Polynesia: Barefooting in the Caribbean

Pros: Casual atmosphere, visiting less crowded smaller islands, other passengers, no shoes!
Cons: bathrooms, low ceilings for tall people

Great review but... (Reply to this comment)

I loved your review, but it was SO long and included many items that really had nothing to do with the Windjammer cruises at all.

Maybe you should have put these in as separate reviews of the individual islands you visited???

I wanted more info on the ship, the people, the whole sailing experience.

I am still giving it an good score as I think you write very well and are very detailed.

glad to hear its much the same. I loved "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes, the sail raising and the games on deck. The itinerary has changed a little--we went to Nevis and Montserrat. But that was before Montserrat was destroyed by the volcano. We also went to Caribelle Batik and I still have my batik picture of the Polynesia framed and hanging in my bathroom.

Keep writing. You're a great addition to Epinions.

It rains a lot in Philadelphia, doesn't it? Just finished up helping my parents pack up from South Jersey for their move to Florida a couple of weeks ago and it was so gray!

Congratulations on your engagement! I think you are making the right choice in not taking a Windjammer cruise for your honeymoon. While the cruises are a LOT of fun, I really liked having so much private time with my new husband on our honeymoon. The honeymooners we met on our cruise were having fun but one woman remarked to me that she had hoped for a little more "alone" space while aboard.

The Windjammer ships are great but the accommodations are quite cramped. We each had our own bunk bed for the week. There were some larger rooms with double beds but they fill up fast.

Have a great time on both Hawaiian islands!

Your trip on the Flying Cloud sounds like you had a great time! We'd love to try that ship one of these days but it's going to be just a little while. I can be patient!

Thanks for a terrific review. So neat to see that Windjammer cruises remain essentially the same over time. We sailed aboard Flying Cloud for two weeks in the BVI in (are you ready for this??) 1979 and enjoyed the "camping at sea" experience. Also did the 12 meter racing thing in '94 while aboard Wind Star....terrific experience. Glad you enjoyed it as well!
Happy sailing!

... your epinion makes me want to be basking in the sun in the Caribbean somewhere instead of being here! Great review! I actually looked into Windjammer too for my honeymoon too (we're also going to Kauai -- Maui and Kauai actually -- can't wait!) but we plan on a Caribb. cruise in another year or two. Thanks for the great review -- chock full of info!
