| nyclady4's Full Review: Zagreb |
We have just arrived from our trip to the Balkans via Gate1 Tours-- Croatia and Slovenia, with a side trip to Montenegro. All went well despite the cold. Via tourbus, it was a wonderful way to see the country, without driving. No tourists, so the architecture, food and landscape were the attractions. For history and culture without the "fast food nation" on its doorstep, Croatia offers natural, indigenous food, wine and products, and an economy that is available to US tourists whose $ buys less. The shopping in Zagreb was to die for. The people are courteous, chic and available for conversation, even if you speak only English. The walled cities are astounding and inside of them the community thrives with original artifacts, family life and a bustling economy. Art/architecture students this is a must. A pleasure to be among the Croatian people. Kudos to Gate1 and to guides, Rok Kunaver and Loran. We explored 2500 miles of country together in comfort and safety, despite challenges of sleet and snowcovered mountains. Rok's historian's account of the area's culture and history made it come alive. We experienced the most in 11 days that one could expect. All local guides were excellent.
