I was in London in 1998 and only had two days to see everything. Where to begin? My friend Judy and I bought tickets at our hotel for 12 pounds to ride the double decker bus routes. We had 24 hours to use the ticket as many times as we wanted. Morning came early and found us in Piccadilly Circus. The first bus that came we jumped on! It took us all around the area -- we saw Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, London Bridge (not falling down), Harrods, Hyde Park, the changing of the guards and we even saw Prince Phillip leaving church! All of this without leaving the comfort of our seat in the front row on top of the bus! That afternoon we took another line and saw Bond Street, Oxford, Soho, Trafalgar Square and the Abbey.
The best of the buses: you really can see (not get into) everything. I was able to say "yeah, I saw the Tower of London and Picadilly Circus". It's great for the traveler like me who doesn't care if they don't get into every museum. I did get the feel of the city and found it easier to get around on foot later in the day.
The worst of the buses: you can't guarantee who will be sitting next to you. On one bus there was an old lady who kept asking me "what was that?". Other than that I'd highly recommend this way to sightsee.
