Certainly Not! Even if you have traveled Europe extensively and exhausted your appetite for cathedrals, Notre Dame is a must see for anyone venturing to Paris. Personally, Notre Dame amazed me with its immense size and impressive architecture. The exterior of the cathedral is covered in elaborate carvings of gargoyles and religious scenes. I spent a fair amount of time just wandering amidst the crowds staring at the incredible sight. At the rear of the cathedral, a beautiful garden area is impeccably kept up and there are places to sit to enjoy the view.
After viewing the incredibly long line to climb to the top of the Tower, I decided to skip the hour plus wait and got in line for the ground floor. This part of the cathedral is free to the general public and the relatively short line moved quickly even in peak traveling season. I spent about an hour exploring the cathedral and could have easily spent more time there. There are enclaves all along the sides of the church filled with statues of saints. The most notable, of course, was Joan of Arc. Another unforgettable site, were the beautiful stained glass windows that graced the walls. Upon reflection, I wish I had spent the time and climbed to the top of the tower.
I must add that donations are accepted for the upkeep and renovation of the cathedral.
