Review Topic: Overview
I admit it, I am biased. I am Sardinian. No, wait, this is not an undercover advertisement. I probably know better than the average tourist what the bad aspects of this place are.
I never lived in Sardinia, but since my family does, I've been there so many times that I like to help anyone wanting to go there. I have travelled a lot around Europe, Africa and a bit around the USA and the caribbean, and despite all the wonders I saw during those trips, Sardinia remains my favourite destination.
This year I stayed in Villasimius, a village on the southern east corner of the island. It has a collection of the most beautiful beaches you can find in a small distance, and many diverse possibilities of activity, while not being completely cut off from comfort. Some of the hotels there are highly expensive world-class resorts, but luckily they're closed off and distant from the rest. Sardinia has a lot to attract tourism: it's natural resources and landscapes are stunning and the variety of environments can meet everybody's wishes, especially if you're not interested in being just another pancake on a beach. Sardinians can be hostile sometimes due to historical reasons (many invasions, and the most recent one is wild tourism) and a certain lack of knowledge of international culture. However, they are a proud nation with its own culture (very different from the rest of Italy), language and dialects, social habits, and there's a lot to discover in the sardinian folklore, music, traditions, gastronomy and art. Also, Sardinia hosts an incredible list of archeological sites, among incredible natural surroundings, such as Nora and Barumini, which are a must see for anyone going there. I will do my best to describe some of my favourite locations and activities in Sardinia in more detailed sub-topics. But, in general, I consider not complete anyone's life if they have never seen this place.
