When I think of Bermuda... I think of INCREDIBLE. Bermuda is probably one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It's a paradise that's not very well known. But once you've been there, you're going to go back... That's a guarantee. After a getaway in Bermuda, here's what I found:
Airlines That Fly There:
Bermuda is actually an unpopular route for airlines. Therefore the prices are very EXPENSIVE while flying from the US. There are also very few airlines that fly to Bermuda. The largest carrier that flys to Bermuda is US Airways which has more than one slot in Bermuda. United will be flying there soon though once they purchase US Airways. American Airlines also has a slot in Bermuda, and does fly there from the US. British Airways is the last major carrier that flies to Bermuda. The tickets are all very expensive to Bermuda, you shouldn't expect any specials or anything. I have also seen a couple of small carriers that fly there, such as Miami Air.
Cruises:
Cruises that go to Bermuda leave from New York City, Boston, or Pittsburg. Such cruise lines that go to Bermuda are Royal Carribean, Princess Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruise Lines, and Norweigan Cruise lines. The ships that go to Bermuda are small compared to ocean liners that go into the Carribean, the Royal Carribean Nordic Empress is the largest ship that goes to Bermuda.
Location:
Bermuda is an island that is located around 600 miles south of the Chesapeake Bay. It's near the north easteastern part of the United States. It's not in the Carribean where most people think it is, most flights that fly to Bermuda go from the Northeast, such as Philadelphia or Charlotte.
Weather:
There usually isn't very much rain in Bermuda, Bermuda has a very temperate and warm climate. It's usually in the upper 70s to lower 90s year round. It's perfectly fine to go to Bermuda in winter, the sun is still shining, and the temperatures are warm. There's no wrong time to go.
Price:
Bermuda is actually very pricy. First of all, the hotels are very expensive. More than those in the Carribean on average. Transportation is another big issue in Bermuda, there's taxis and busses.
*Taxis - Definately not worth it. Taxis are incredibly expensive, they can cost more than $100 to just go around the island. If you're trying to get around the island, DO NOT USE taxis.
*Buses - Bermuda has a relatively efficient bus system. They have many busses running around the island. You can purchase 1-day or 3-day unlimited use bus passes. They are very well worth it. If you're on a cruise ship, DO NOT buy it on the ship. They rip you off there. They charge more than buying one at a bus depot at either the Dockyard (ship port on the opposite side of Hamilton) or the seaport in Hamilton. Some routes with the buses are used more often than others, some buses come every 10 minutes, others come every 30 minutes. Buses are great though, they are air conditioned, and the newer buses that are used have comfortable seats.
Rentals:
Unfortunately in Bermuda, Americans can not rent cars. People drive on the left side of the road in Bermuda. Americans and other tourists can only rent motor scooters. They are an easy way to access many parts of the island. Such as getting to beaches and all. They are much slower and smaller than busses though.
Beaches:
The beaches in Bermuda are a "MUST SEE". The beaches in Bermuda have beautiful coral reefs, and gorgeous blue water. They are so incredibly beautiful and mystifying. The sand is also magnificent, it has little red specks in it. You should get some while you're there, it's great looking sand.
The best beach of all in Bermuda is definately Warwick. It's more of a secluded beach though, so there are very few people there. It's peaceful and quiet. There are many cliffs there, it's a magnificent beach. It's on the opposite side to Hamilton though, so it's very close to the Dockyard.
Shopping:
Shopping in Bermuda is great. In Hamilton, there are many great stores where you can get great bargains. You can also get alcohol very cheap there, such as a large bottle of Absolut Vodka for only $11!!! Compared to ~$25 in the US. There is one famous store in Hamilton by the seaport, I forgot the name, but you can't miss it. It has many great things that it sells, clothes, collectibles such as Lladro, and they even sell Meisen china!!! Shopping in Bermuda is a shopper's fantasy. You can also buy many valuable jewels, Rolex watches, etc... The prices there are great, and so many stores and things that you can buy! There's also NO sales tax :-m !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Citizens:
The people who live in Bermuda are just GREAT! They are some of the friendliest people in the world. They are always willing to help anyone if they need help, they will just make life a lot easier and a lot happier for you.
The Verdict:
Bermuda is a paradise... Hidden in the Atlantic Ocean near the US, not many people know of it. But Bermuda is truly magnificent in every aspect. It's just about a perfect country. The only bad things are the airfares and no car rentals. Other than that, Bermuda is a true paradise, that will amaze anyone who visits. I'd go there every summer if I could, and anyone who has been there too would feel the same way. :-)
