| livewire_'s Full Review: San Diego Restaurants |
I knew of Seau's Restaurant by way of a mention it got on a football game a few years ago. In the back of my head, I firmly resolved to eat there if I ever visited San Diego. My time came last week.
Stanley Cup finals, game 6. New Jersey is on the verge of eliminating the Avalanche, and I desperately want Ray Bourque to get a Stanley Cup ring before he retires. This 21 inch motel room screen will not do! I need a large screen TV!
Fortunately, I had been to Seau's Restaurant 2 days earlier as a must-see stop on my week's vacation. My first experience there was a memorable one. Watching the Stanley Cup finals, games 6 and 7 was a treat like nothing I can imagine.
The view:
You want a big screen TV? I SAID DO YOU WANT A BIG SCREEN TV? Sit down right here, Chester. Will 12 feet high be sufficient? Good. Oh, and just for you, we'll play music during the commercials.
The food:
The first time there I had a Santa Fe chicken sandwich that I'll be telling my grandchildren about. The second time I had cheese tortellini with spicy chicken. Again, a masterpiece. And for game 7 I enjoyed smoked salmon fettucini. Before each meal I had an appetizer of sushi, which was easily comparable in flavour and presentation to any I've ever eaten in Vancouver. Dessert was merely excellent. They offer the standard dessert menu. This menu will please everyone.
The people:
Friendly, fast, helpful. What else do you want?
The building:
Two stories inside, all naturally with an excellent view of the TV screen. The lower floor features a center arrangement of tables in the shape of a football. Corny perhaps, but suits the venue. Sports paraphenalia strewn throughout, though tastefully. All very clean and a pleasant place to be.
The crowd:
Everyone's there to watch the game, and they cheer, applaud and react exactly as though they were at the game, front and center. Everyone's knowledgeable about the game of hockey; no one at any time asked me, "Uh, which of them boys is the quarterback?"
This is what every sports bar and restaurant should be. Leave your couch, go watch the game in a restaurant built for sports fans.
