Pros: Off season is quiet and uncrowded.
Cons: Weather can be tricky, not much entertainment in walking distance.
The Bottom Line: If you're at the beach for the party scene, travel in season. If you're there for the ocean, off season was wonderful

| sanctus's Full Review: Delaware |
My family is scattered all along the east coast, so when it came time for Thanksgiving, we came up with a brand new way to get the family together. We rented a condo in Dewey Beach Delaware.
Dewey Beach is right next to Rehoboth Beach, and I understand it's known as a party place in season. Off season it's practically deserted, but still lovely.
We were located off Route 1, on that little strip of land that runs right between the ocean and the bay side. You cannot choose a bad location here. We were 3 houses from the beach, and 1 1/2 blocks from the bay. At least a couple times a day, I'd take the kids, ranging from 3 - 11 years old, to the beach, and then the bay.
The beaches are beautiful, spacious, and clean. And did I mention, off season, practically deserted? The weather over Thanksgiving can be on the cool side, but even so we managed to roll up pants legs and do a little wading.
There's not a lot of off season entertainment in Dewey, which could be a minus. However, the shopping in Rehoboth is extensive, including outlet stores and lots of little touristy shops. They do a tree lighting that weekend as well. And with no sales tax in Delaware, it's a great place to do your Black Friday shopping. It's also not a long drive to Ocean City, where you can see a Christmas light show, and walk a practically deserted boardwalk.
The condo we rented claims to sleep 14 people, but I really don't count a pullout couch in the living room, so I'd say 12 if some are children. Most of the condos appeared about the same size. From most of the condos, you have an ocean view, and potentially a bay view as well. Ours had a rooftop deck that was just wonderful, and you can see about a million stars at night. There are houses to rent, too, if you need more space. We paid $850 for 4 nights total.
Would I do this again? Well, we've already booked for this year.
