Another must see in the Baltimore Inner Harbor area is the Maryland Science Center. The Maryland Science Center, 601 Light Street Baltimore, MD 21230, is located in downtown Baltimore.
Admissions for an adult is 11.50, children 4-12 8.50 and children under 3 are free. Your admission price includes the Science Center which is three floors of exhibits, a Davis Planetarium show, and one IMAX Theater feature- which when we visited was Everest. The Center also offers group rates.
The Science Center offers numerous exhibits. The Dino Digs exhibit offers the children an opportunity to walk in the tracks of a dinosaur and view dinosaur fossils. The Science Arcade has dozens of hands-on experiments to touch, push, pull, and turn provide and provide insight into light, magnetism, mechanics, sight, and sound. My son really enjoyed this part of the science center. Asteroids in the Atrium is an exhibit which features models of the NEAR satellite and a giant simulated asteroid. You can also touch a 500-pound meteorite that was discovered in the New Mexico mountains over 70 years ago.
The Center also offers demonstration stages where live presentations are preformed. There is also a hands-on experience featuring discoveries from the Hubble Space Telescope and other Maryland based space science resources, including The John Hopkins University and spacecraft.
In the Planetarium you get to see hundreds of images and special effects which portray the marvels of the universe. You can find constellations and other planets. The only bad part of this is it is on a first-come, first-served seating, so the lines do tend to get long at times.
Next step of our tour, the IMAX theater. First if you have never experienced IMAX, this is a must. I was so amazed. The movie that was showing on this large movie screen which is five stories high, was Everest. What an awesome experience.
And of course the Science Center offers a Science Store where you can purchase anything from science related activities, to experiment, clothing and books. Also on the premises is a Friendly's Express where you can enjoy a meal or a snack.
The Science Center also offers special programs for school groups, which I thought looked interesting. They offer a camp in where you do just that, camp in at the Science center, and a traveling science project, where the Science Center will travel to your school and set up an exhibit.
Initially I thought the prices were high but this is well worth the money. I think I enjoyed this as much as my son did. The only thing I would recommend, you make a day of just the Science Center, or you might miss something.
