Are you a little short on cash but want to spend a romantic weekend away with/without the kids or on your honeymoon? You should try out the Southern Oaks Inn in Branson, Missouri. We went there for our honeymoon because we were still in college, had very little money to spend and wanted to get away from everything (especially after planning a wedding). We had fun and stayed four days for less than $500.
The Southern Oaks Inn in is located approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the limelight strip. You can get to many destinations from their location. They have both inside and outside rooms, jacuzzi and plain rooms, and smoking and non-smoking buildings. Inside the lobby, you can get information on all the exhibits, tickets, shows, and train rides. The front desk is very helpful when questions need to be answered. There is plenty of parking. An IMAX theater is directly across the street.
The location is one of the best if you are planning on visiting Silver Dollar City. You won't have to deal with much traffic and only one traffic light on the way.
The inn has a 800 number you can use to make reservations or give to a relative in case of emergency. The 800 number is actually to the inn and not to a booking agent.
If you plan an escape in mid-December, you will just be around the block from the Christmas Light Show and Lookout Tower. Those displays are a definite must see. It is romantic going through the lights display in your car. But you must have good brakes since half of the trip is down and incline and you barely move. You get to go in Lookout Tower free of charge after you go through the lights display. You will be able to see the entire lights display from the tower and get out to stretch your legs after being in the car approximately 10/20 minutes.
The red-roof mall is behind the inn and another mall is located less than five miles from it. You will have to endure a little traffic going to the red-roof mall. The other mall is new and located away from the strip so there is much less traffic hassles.
The rooms are reasonably priced, especially the jacuzzi rooms (approximately $70) and are worth every penny. The inn has an in-door and out-door pool. There isn't a lifeguard at either one. They serve a continental breakfast; or if you don't care for that, there is a great little restaurant three or four doors down that has a wonderful breakfast buffet. You can get anything from donuts, to bacon and eggs, to fruit and/or cereal; and they are reasonably priced.
This inn is in an excellent location for anyone who wants to be alone with a loved one or take the kids to enjoy Silver Dollar City. The number is 1-800-324-8752. Check it out, you love it.
