Branson is a small town nestled in the Ozark Mountains, with its many theaters and dazzling lights. Branson is a nice place to spend a day or two. When we went there we purchased tickets for the Box Car Willie Show and the Wayne Newton Theater. The Box Car Willie show was fantastic, he sung all the old train songs and took time to sign many autographs. While we were at Box Car Willie Theater, they took videos of the show which included views of the audience. You could order this live video after the show and they would mail it to you within one month. The Wayne Newton show was also a very good show. He sang all of his old songs and had a great backup singer who actually sang better than he did.
Although there are a lot of theaters in Branson, they are very expensive. Box Car Willie's show was $22 a ticket and Wayne Newton's show was $32 a ticket. There are many other entertainers including Moe Bandy, Mel Tillis and Andy Williams. They also have some early morning shows that include breakfast!
One of our favorite sites was the old downtown Branson area. They have some quaint shops where you can visit places like a toy store, several souvenir shops, ice cream parlors and shops that sold Ty Beanie Babies. There were several small eateries which offered limited menus at a reasonable price. One cafe even had a vocalist playing a guitar, who sang songs that you requested. The atmosphere was so friendly that we went there twice during our stay!
Overall we think that Branson is a nice place to stay for a couple of days, but not for a week. The truth is unless you are willing to pay a lot of money, everything seemed to be too expensive. we were disappointed that there were not any popular present day country singers. After you visit a few country shows, it becomes boring. We also made the mistake of going to Branson in May and the Silver Dollar City was not open so we cannot give you an opinion on it.
They had some outlet stores which we did enjoy. We felt that the road signs were poorly marked and the traffic congestion was bad. If you really love country music, I would suggest that you go to Nashville, Tennessee where you have not only the Opryland and the Opryland Hotel, but also there are big music stars to see!
