I have been to this park over 40,000 times. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but I have been here a lot over the years. We live relatively close to this free parking and free admission park, so since I can remember this was part of our summer schedule!! I'm going to break the park into sections to make it easier to understand the information.
Hotels/Lodging- There are a few options for this section. The first is Econo Lodge(14miles from Knoebels) (570) 387-0490, Budget Host Patriot Inn(16miles from Knoebels) (800) 873-1180,and Crab Apple Cove Bed & Breakfast(3miles from Knoebel's) (570) 627-2078. There are also other hotels within 20 miles of Knoebel's, but these are the ones I thought were the best choices. The other ones are listed at www.knoebels.com. The other option is to stay right next to the park in Knoebels campground. You can rent spaces for campers( $24 a night), (no tents), and cabins($74 a night)
Parking- It is free to park at Knoebel's. This is a special thing because most parks charge anywhere from $4-$6 to park. They also have free shuttles that take you to and from your car. The old world class of this amusement park is seen everywhere even in the parking lot!!
Admission/Tickets- General admission is free to Knoebels. This means if your taking someone along with you who does not ride rides then you don't have to pay. You will have to pay to ride the amusement park rides, but there are two ways to pay for them. The first way is by books of tickets in $5 and $10 dollar increments. These tickets can be used everyday of the week. The other option is only good from Monday-Friday. This option is a hand stamp and can be used on all the rides from 10am-11pm, but it does not include food or the pool. It's cost is $25.50 adult and $14.50 children under 48". You can also take $5.00 off the adult ticket if you don't want to ride the coasters. And finally they have a after 5:00pm rate that is $8.00 less on all tickets.
Food/Beverage- WOW..... Some of the best amusement park food around. I go on the weekends sometimes just to eat their tasty treats. They have excellent pizza that can be purchased in whole pies or slices. The prices are reasonable.....$9.00 for a large pie, which is huge and tastes great!! Right across from the pizza parlor they have a circular food stand that serves the best pierogies, tri taters(hashbrowns), hot dogs, and ice cream . I must also mention their excellent frozen ice tea, which can be purchased at the candy apple/caramel corn stand. Not only do they have great food stands, but they also have picnic areas where you can pack your own favorite treats. There are no regulations on bringing in food and beverage into the park, just no beer/spirits. They also have great facilities for family reunions, birthday parties, and company picnics.
Rides- Knoebels has some of the best amusement park rides. They have the Phoenix, which is a wooden coaster voted in the top ten of the world. This coaster has a wonderful story behind it, because it was first called The Rocket of Playland in San Antonio TX. The Knoebel family bought it after Playland closed in 1980 and reassembled it as The Phoenix in 1985. There is a new wooden roller coaster called The Twister opened in 1999. In my opinion though, The Phoenix is better; however the Twister holds its own in comparison to other coasters. Knoebels is also home of the Cosmostron. This inside ride( similar to the himilaya) takes you forward and backward in the dark, while playing the latest music hits. They have two wonderful water rides called The Skloosh and The Flume. These will leave you soaked, so bring extra clothes. Knoebels also has some other wonderful rides, but these are my favorites.
Other Attractions- Knoebels also offers a huge swimming pool called Crystal Pool. The rates are $4.00 (adults weekdays), $4.50(adults weekends), $2.50 (children weekdays), $3.00 (children weekends), and spectators$2.00. They also offer rates to use their waterslides which are .70 per slide, $3.00/5, or $4.50 all day plus admission. Another attraction is their live bands. Knoebels invites bands to play on certain days. You can get schedules from their website. They also offer minigolf for and extra fee.
My personal opinion on Knoebels is it is a wonderful park for children ages 3-14. It is great a park for older teens one time, but it does get old, and doesn't compare to Cedar Point for its thrill rides. If you want to spend the afternoon relaxing and eating then this is the park for you!!
