Breckenridge mountain in Colorado is a more of a resort than a ski mountain. Although I myself would rather go to a less popular skiing area, Breckenridge as a whole is a good time. There is a plenty for the kiddies to do along with the adults. I went to Breckenridge last winter in February and there was plenty of snow. It seemed that last winter Colorado was a little dry until February (let's hope that doesn't continue), so I was lucky.
The town of Breckenridge is a good town, pretty big with a large grocery store and plenty of bars. The town has a night life, but is marketed towards families more than singles. There are more shops and things are more expensive. I guess the general feel is more of a vacation atmosphere. Being single i still had plenty of fun and still would recommend the area. The town and resort is about one and a half to two hours from Denver, not too far to find good skiing. If you are going I would recommend staying on the mountain itself if you can to avoid lines and the drive. I was fortunate enough to stay at a condo and it was well worth it.
The skiing itself was good, although definitely more groomed than other areas i have been to in Colorado (see my review on Crested Butte), reflecting the resort feeling once again. Still there are some challenging trails and breathtaking views from the top of the mountain. If you are a beginner then there are plenty of opportunities for you to learn to ski, and the ski school i hear is first rate. Experts can find good faces on the mountain, but backcountry skiing is little limited. Beware the backside of the mountain in the afternoon; let's just say it tends to get a little windy.
Overall Breckenridge is a good mountain. The town/resort is more for the family so go for it if you are taking the rugrats. If you are looking more for straight skiing than some other place like Crested Butte or Alta in Utah would do you better. Overall I would like to give this place a three and a half, but i guess i can round up!
