| jennypoo's Full Review: Crested Butte |
If I were rich and or famous I would live in Crested Butte.
It is a beautiful and fun place to be anytime of the year. We have been there in every season and have never found a place we like better.
Crested butte offers ski in ski out resorts. Many condo rentals and several bed and breakfasts and a couple of hotels as well. There are plenty of resturants to choose from and tons of activities as well.
There are always special events featured and the fun doesn't end in the winter.
When the pass opens (Kebler Pass) in the late spring you can tour up the winding dirt roads to Lost Lake or to the little cabin where they filmed "The Wilderness Family". BIG INSIDER TIP*** There is also a resort up the pass that is ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY SNOW MOBILE IN THE WINTER! It is awesome. The very rustic In is called "IRWIN LODGE". You eat in a common area, there are no phones, the rooms are like comfy bedrooms. It is just a beautiful place. In the summer that resort has horseback riding and it is so secluded and quiet. You can look out over the canyon and see storms moving in over the glacier lake it is just breathtaking.
The town has quaint restraunts and several hopping clubs.
The appeal of Crested Butte is due to many things not the least of which is the seclusion and beauty. This town is just so nice filled with small shops and places to see and eat. There is a shuttle bus from Mt Crested butte to the lower area where the main town is "Crested Butte".
It runs all day and night. You can stay up near the slopes take the bus down for dinner and some night life and then not worry about driving. Just hop the bus back to your hotel or condo.
Our kids LOVE it there too. The snow is great! We have never gone to Crested Butte and been disappointed. It is small compared to a lot of the other resorts but I like this. It is small but personal and there are lots of things to do. You can even hot air balloon, white water raft with excellent tour guides ( by the way, this is my second favorite thing next to skiing and you definitely hit some rapids here).
EXTREME SKIERS??? This is your heaven. I have two kids. They love the bunny hills. But my hubby and myself...we love the challenging slopes that the Butte has to offer. The variety is great for being such a small area. There are plenty of beautiful blues to cruise too.
All I can say is that there isn't a season that I wouldn't be able to spend my vacation at Cretsed Butte... and I lived in Colorado for several years, if that helps. :)
If you are going to take a trip, I have one requirement...TAKE ME!
