This was my first, last, and ONLY time I will do business with Enterprise Rental.
My vehicle was broken into and significant damage was caused. Therefore, I was forced to take my car to a repair shop and leave the car as it was not safe to be driven. The repair shop where my vehicle was left recommended Enterprise Rental Company and told me they would place the reservations for me.
I went to the Enterprise Rental office on June 29, 2001, to find that there were no reservations on record for me. I had to wait about 30 minutes for paper work to be processed. I was advised by the representative that there would be a $250.00 authorization charged to my credit card. Well, to my surprise they authorized $300.00 instead, which I didn’t realize was done until the following day.
I was given a 2000 White Toyota Corolla which was filthy inside and smelled horrible(smoking vehicle). I drove this car for 3 days without any problems until Tuesday, July 3, 2001. On Tuesday Morning I proceeded to leave to work, when the brake warning light came on, therefore I circled the block to return home. By the time I made it back around the light turned off and the car was braking normally; therefore, I proceeded to work.
That same day, in the evening I was leaving work and it was raining extremely hard (Miami Weather), I was pulled over by a Police officer, who waited in his police vehicle for a 20 min for it to stop raining. When the rain slowed down enough he approached the car. He advised me that MY tires on MYcar were bald and not were they only extremely dangerous they were extremely illegal to be on the street. He also added that he was going to be forced to give me a ticket, I pleaded with the officer not to give me a ticket and explained this was a rental car that I had just got a few days prior. He warned me that I needed to get this car off the road and was not to be driving it and he suggested that I contact the rental car company to change this car. 35 Min later and frustrated I proceeded home! However to my surprise the fun was just starting!!
I continued home and the brake warning light came on, and would go off about 30-45 seconds later it would come on again. The light would also come on if I was to abruptly apply the brakes. So it doesn’t take a mechanic to realize something was wrong with the brakes on this car. However, I continued my drive home. I attempted to use the windshield wiper fluid to clear off oily water from the road ways, the washer fluid was empty! So at that point I was beyond frustrated and disgusted. I got home and did not drive the car for the remainder of Tuesday, Wednesday (4th July holiday, closed), or Thursday.
Thursday afternoon, I spent MY lunch at work attempting to get this problem resolved. I called the rental office where I rented the car from to speak to a manager and explain the situation. A manager picked up the phone and I began to explain my situation, In the middle of my story, he rudely interrupted me to tell me "just bring the car back". He acted as if he didn’t have the time nor concern to hear the problems I has experienced. I advised the manager that I work until 6 and they are closed at that time, he advised me that there is a 24 hour enterprise by Miami international Airport, he gave me their number and address.
I called the Le June/Miami international Airport office and spoke to a young lady who advised me they do not have a car to switch me too, so I need to call the other office that I rented the car from. I call the other office and speak to the manager again. He advised me that “they have to have a car, that’s one of our biggest offices.” He told me to call them again. So I advised him that I was not going to play "chase the new rental car" back and forth. He told me well just drive the car here and we can change it, I reminded him that I would not drive a car that has illegal tires and an obvious brake problem. He had no solutions until I asked for a corporate headquarters number and address. He then wanted to start over and attempt to help me. He agreed to give me a credit for the days that I was not able to drive the car. He also offered to go pick up the car and change it for a new one between 7:30am-6pm, unfortunately no one is home at that time to give him the keys or get the other keys. He offered to come in at 7:00am if I would like to bring the car into him to change it, again I reminded him that I would not drive that car. I advised him that I would call him back.
Unfortunately, I was not able to get to have someone home on Friday to exchange keys of the cars. On Saturday July 7, 2001, I made arrangements to exchange the car, and a friend of mine would follow me to ensure safe arrival. I changed the rental car to a dodge Neon which was great, I had no problems with it.
When I went to return the second rental car (dodge neon) on July 13, 2001, I complained about the problem with the previous rental car that was not driven for four days I was supposed to get credit for. The representative looked confused, and I advised him that manager advised me that a credit would be issued. I was shocked that the so called manager didn’t document my invoice or make note of the car exchange. I was told that all they could do is waive the low fuel fee. I agreed as I was so tired of arguing with these people who obviously lack brain cells and have no clue to the understanding or the meaning of customer service or customer satisfaction.
I sent a letter to the enterprise headquarters requesting a refund for the four days that I was not able to drive the Toyota Corolla rental car. No response yet, should I be surprised? I think not!
I am shocked that they brush off human lives, to spare and gripe over a $100.00 set of tires and a $5.59 can of brake fluid. My GOD-son and his brothers were in the Corolla rental with me one more than one occasion, thank god nothing happened while they were in the car. Then I was told by the "manager" to drive the car back to the office to exchange it. My only regret is that the brakes didn’t fail on that car ride back to the rental office, as I would have loved to have sued these incompetent fools.
