The Italy Pavilion at EPCOT will always hold a fond place in my memories, as I was married there only a few months ago. And although the wedding was originally planned for another location, I could not possibly think of another spot in Disney World (or anywhere else in the actual world for that matter) that I'd rather have held the ceremony.
And there's one key reason for that, it's simply the best place in all of Disney World to take great pictures. You don't even have to be a professional photographer, almost any angle of this pavilion makes for a picture to treasure forever.
This beautiful pavilion captures the essence of Italy without feeling like simply a miniature version of the country (as the France pavilion feels with the awkwardly placed mini Eiffel Tower). You can find wonderfully detailed stone pillars, a bridge leading over to a walkway by the water with colorful poles where you feel like you could just step right into a gondola, a fountain with stone statue, and even a recreation of the St Mark's Campanile bell tower. My favorite location of the pavilion, however, would have to be the elevated platform in the center on which my ceremony was conducted (from where you have an excellent view of the Spaceship Earth globe across the water at the center of EPCOT's international pavilion).
The pavilion does not feature any attractions such as the boat rides at the Norway and Mexico pavilions, nor any movies as in the China or Canada pavilions, so it will likely not prove very engaging for younger audiences. But adults, particularly couples looking for a little romance, will find it a fantastic place to stop and catch a breath of fresh air in the middle of a crowded theme park.
The pavilion also features the L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante, a traditional Italian restaurant with surprisingly good quality food, albeit small portions. However, if you're looking to check out this restaurant, you'd better not wait for long, it will be permanently closing its doors this summer to make way for a brand new Italian restaurant. I'll be sad to see it go, but hopefully the new place will be just as good.
So the next time you go wondering the world, be sure to stop in to Italy, you really will feel like you stepped into another country.
