Having been to Disney World in the early Spring of 1999, before Emily was even in our thoughts, but i am sure tucked away in the corners of our dreams somewhere, Craig, Kyra, and I spent a wonderful 2 weeks hopping from Park to Park.
One of our most favorite nights was E-Ride night in which you can purchase a special ticket, Disney Hotel Visitors only, that allows you to visit the Magic Kingdom for a period of three hours and have the entire park to roam by yourself! No crowds, no waiting in lines, the only catch is that ONLY certain rides, shops, and places to eat are open during this time, but the good news is that they are usually rides that are for ALL ages to enjoy!
Our favorite ride to go on over and over again that night was the Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin located in Tommorowland to the right of Main Street and is considered the "future" in the Magic Kingdom. Why do we love the ride so much? Because it is not only a ride, it is an experience!
Yes, you're saying, they ALL are, but Buzz is like finding yourself in your favorite video game at the mall, and YOU have been designated to save the planet! What am I talking about? Well before you even get on the ride, you must walk through the que line in which Buzz Lightyear will instruct you on what is going on. It seems the the Evil Emperor Zurg has taken over, and Buzz needs YOUR help to defeat him!
Large batteries line the waiting line, as you then get into your 2 person vehicle with your OWN lazer rocket! Now, these space vehicles can lots of NEAT stuff, you just have to experiment with them! First, you can turn the steering column to make your space vehicle spin, and even stop to face the people behind you! The lazer works with a push of the button, and can be held down for easier maneuvering. There is only ONE lazer rocket per space vehicle, so make sure to let the kids take turns-that means YOU TO Mom and Dad:)
So what are you shooting at? Martians, Aliens, you name it have infested the planet in every nook and cranny. Your car goes over hill after hill, room after room, while you shoot at targets that are placed easily to see on each creature and shape. These rooms are dark with bright neon colors adorning each line and curve in the place! It can be buggy on the eyes at times, so just look away or down if this happens!
As you hit each target, a digital counter in each car counts your points. Once you have defeated Zurg, Buzz thanks you for all your hard work, and shows you the way out. Before exiting your car, make sure you look to your LEFT on the wall, here points are listed and ranks you what kind of Space Ranger YOU are!
Not only is this a fun ride, but the kids, and parents to, LOVE to see if they can do better each time they ride! The line for this during the day is LONG, so try it early in the day, before the park closes, or when we did it- on an E-Ride night! I would have to say that the age range on this would be 4 and up, the monsters MAY scare younger children, but Buzz fans may be to brave to stay OFF this one!
This Disney Epinion is part of the WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR Write-Off being held by Lisa J and Opalman in honor of my 16 month old daughter, Emily Rose, who is suffering from Cancer. Because this is for Emily, I would like to add a personal note to my Epinion.
Dear Emily
My sweet baby girl, my treasure from God, my angel who lifts my spirits when I am down, and our miracle child.
How could this have happened to you? I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions since this past March, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. How can I make it stop? WHO do I tell that I want to get off?? WHY is this happening to you, an innocent child who has been through so much already in your little life, to have Cancer on top of everything else, I cant understand it!
After your six ear infections last Winter, and reshaping your head with the headband for months, I thought that the worse was behind us....then I heard those words, those words that changed my life forever.."Your child has Cancer." I hear them when I go to sleep, when I wake up, and they thunder loudly each and every time I enter the Hospital.
I remember the first night I put you to bed when I knew you had Cancer, and I stared at you for hours, silently weeping at your crib side, wondering if I would see you crawl, walk, go to school, prom, have your first date, and see you walk down the aisle at your wedding. Would I be robbed of things that others take for granted?
Weeks later, I watched them wheel you off for surgery in which you would have the Radiation plaque sewn on your eye. Your Daddy and I cried for hours the night before, and then the tears began to flow when I had to kiss you good-bye- we were told of the risks, and they lingered in my mind as we waited for you to come back to us.
4 hours later, we would be asked to come to your side. There laid my baby, my precious baby, held in arm restraints, a large bandage covering the radiation plaque, and the endless tubes and wires that came in and out from your body made me crumple to the floor. That couldnt be my baby, she was smiling last night and talking to me, this COULD NOT be Emily! We would sit there for the next 5 days and of those 5 days, 2 of them you lay still and in a coma like state- we would call Doctors every 3 hours in a panic because we couldnt see you breathing, and you wouldnt respond to us at all. Do you have any idea what it is like not to be able to hold you? To comfort you and tell you that I would do ANYTHING to take your place? You would open your one eye 2 days later, and managed a smile, and again, the tears flowed and praised my Lord Jesus Christ for helping you to come back to us.
Now 7 months later, you have been through surgery after surgery, check-up after check-up, and again, I find myself asking more questions, and getting less answers. We will find out this week if you will keep your sight, and I pray that you do. I know that this will go on for years to come, and I also have to face the fact that I could lose you to other tumors among your body. It hurts my heart that you will have to bear this as a teen and adult, and what you will have to tell YOUR own children when the time comes.
Emily Rose Petermann, you are my inspiration, my love, and most of all, my hero. I will love you each and every day, and promise to make the most of what time God does allow me to keep you. Good night my sweet heart, your Daddy, Mommy, and big sister Kyra love you more than life itself.
Love
Mommy
I would like to also take this opportunity to THANK all of the following people who have donated their time, kindness, love and support to help my baby girl out. A HUGE Thank YOu to Lisa, James, and Lee for hosting this Write-Off and making the web page for Emily as well- you are ALL of my heroes as well and I love each of you VERY MUCH!!! Please go and read the others below and thank you for taking the time to read mine:)
