Pros: Clean, many locations, friendly, lots of classes and equipment

The Bottom Line: I think it's a great place to get in shape and feel comfortable doing so.

| pixiegrrle's Full Review: Bally Total Fitness |
I think Bally (or Pinnacle as the one I go to is called--same company) is great. The one on Post street in San Francisco is perfect for my schedule--in fact it is right above the bart station, and since there is another one across the street, (like a starbucks--they're everywhere), the smaller one i go to is not too busy.
I got signed up when the $50 fee to join was waived--which doesn't matter because there is a $50 termination fee. Additionally it costs $50 a month.
The facility itself is clean...so much so there are people cleaning machines and mirrors each day i am there. The amenities are also impressive. In the women's locker room they have lotion, shampoo, body wash, soap, conditioner, mouthwash and hairdryers. They have had member appreciation days and activities, and i have only been signed up for 3 months. I also really like how my sales rep waves to me every day and says hello to me by name whether she is alone or with a prospective member.
One good thing is that Membership involves ALL the Pinnicles and Ballys everwhere so if you travel you still have a gym! Also when you join you get a free evaluation so you can track your progress, a free meeting with the chiropractor (they have a massage place too there) and a free session with a personal trainer. I find it a very positive environment-- the music, tvs, and magazines keep the time flying and i really enjoy it there.
