Lost 40 lbs in 4 months and still losing...

Pros: Easy, convenient, most of the food taste great, one-on-one support, and teaches you portion control.
Cons: Expensive, not a big variety and you have to have their food on hand.
The Bottom Line: It's worth trying, if you're committed to loosing the weight!

I've been overweight my entire adult life. I've tried most diets, but never considered doing anything too drastic. I knew I would NEVER get a gastric bypass and at my age Weight Watchers wasn't working anymore. The day I got on the scales and realized I weighed as much as I did the day I gave birth to my 11 lbs daughter, I knew it was time for a dramatic change.
I joined Jenny Craig the next day. I have never tried this program before, but nothing seemed to be working for me. Yes, it was expensive, but when I add up all the fees I've paid for Weight Watchers meetings over the years, it seemed like a good trade off. The food is expensive, but so is the cost of health insurance and dealing with the cost of illnesses associated with being over weight. So, I took the leap and purchased the Platinum Membership.
My husband agreed to eat the food with me, but he does not meet with a counselor each week and he weighs in at home. I could tell from the start that the counselors were friendly, but I seemed to know more about diet and exercise than they did. Most of them didn't seem like they had ever struggled with weight loss. But, I ended up with a counselor that lost 50 lbs on Jenny Craig and had kept it off for 5 yrs. She's been a great support person for me. She helps me strategize on how to deal with challenges I'm facing in the week and celebrates with me when I loose weight. She's been encouraging and supportive. I like that she calls to check up on me and she helps hold me accountable.
But, the bottom line is I have to make the choice to loose weight. My counselor is not there when I'm faced with homemade apple cobbler or fried chicken. I'm the only one that can make that choice!!! Like I said, I've lost 40 lbs in 4 months and I'm still loosing. My husband has lost about 30 lbs in the same amount of time.
Most of the food does taste good and I've found creative ways to add to their meals or change them up a bit. I love eating 6 small meals a day and I'm never hungry. I eat way more salads and fruit than I've ever done before and I feel great! I still have a long way to go, but I make the choice each to day to stick to the plan. I've slowly added exercise into my routine and I'm getting there. I still have about 100 more lbs to loose, but I don't focus on that. I focus on the day and getting through it making good food choices.
I also like that Jenny Craig works with me to get me off their food as I loose weight. Once I'm half way to my goal weight I will eat regular food twice a week and slowly wean off their food altogether. I've never felt pressured to buy their food, I buy what I need and nothing more. I do still eat out, but I make better choices. The amazing thing is how much my stomach has shrunk. I can't overeat, even if I wanted to. My stomach just can't hold that much food and I feel terrible after overeating! I just can't believe how I use to accept feeling. I would have terrible stomach aches after eating and now I realize, I was just eating too much. I don't have stomach aches or heartburn anymore.
Jenny Craig is not for everyone. But, if you're serious about weight loss, if you struggle with portion control and if you can afford it, then it's a great option. But, as with any diet, I'm still responsible for doing the work. My Jenny Craig counselor can be as supportive as she can, but I still have to discipline myself to follow the plan. There are no easy solutions when it comes to weight loss.
