| kbmg's Full Review: Weight Watchers 1-2-3 Success At Home |
When I met my husband 10 years ago I was a size 8 and I weighed only 125 pounds. After having two wonderful boys lets just say that I am not a size 8 any more. At my biggest, after the birth of my second son I was a size 26!! Wow how did that happen????
Well, I have really tried every diet there is. Fad diets, Atkins diet ( I will tell you about that diet some other time), slim fast diet, blah, blah, blah. These diets all have some good points and I did lose weight, but after a while I had trouble sticking with them. On Atkins I missed my bread, on Slim fast I was starving!!!
For me this diet works because I can eat whatever I want (in moderation of course), I don't have to cook myself a special meal that is different from what my family is eating and I don't have to go to meetings. I am not saying meetings are bad, they are just not for me. I am all in favor of support groups of any kind. I am a mom who has 2 small boys, one with special needs, so I just don't have the time or money to invest in going to a meeting. It is just the way it is for me.
The concept of this diet is very simple. Everything you eat counts as points. You are allowed a certain number of points per day. That is pretty much it. You can eat anything you want, of course some foods have more points than others, (say pizza has more points than celery). However, if you have a craving for something, you can have it just count your points.
I received the weight watchers program from my mom who has been on the diet for a few months. It was working for her so she gave me her information. I have the handy books that gives you a list of most foods in the world and the number of points for each food. I have the at home guide book that tells you all your need to know to start the program and a handy journal that is really great.
The Journal is great for a number of reasons. Some of the things you are encouraged to do in the program is drink six, 8 oz glasses of water, have 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day and do 20 minutes of physical activity. (I have no problem with the activity, the only time I sit is when I write my epinions!) This journal allows you to check off at the bottom of each day when you have a glass of water or have some vegetables. This is a great way to keep track of what you are eating. You also write down what you eat and the total points you are using. You can tally them up at the end of the day.
You also receive a handy item called a Pointsfinder. This allows you to count the points of almost any food. If you want something just look at the nutrition facts. You find your fiber, calories and fat and match them on the slide. You will find it is so easy to find the points in any food.
Another nice feature of this diet is you can "bank" your points. Say you have a special event coming up and you want to go out to dinner. You know this day is going to have more points than you are allowed. Shave off a few points each day until you go out. You can save up the extra points each day and then go out and have a good time without a worry that you are blowing your diet.
After a while you start to know what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. You will also start to substitute lower fat items in your foods that will reduce the number of points per serving. For example use low fat sour cream or fat free cheese in your cooking. I am also using turkey instead of ground meat which is less points and fat. You will start to fill up on foods with lower points and lower calories.
As you lose weight your points will also go down. This way you can keep losing weight. I have been on the diet for more almost two months and have lost 10 pounds. I do not feel that I am deprived of what I love. If I want to have something I can, I just count it. As long as I don't go over my points I am ok. You have a point spread of 7 points. Mine is 26-33 points. If I am not too hungry I have around 26 points, if I am hungry I go to the maximum of 33.
This program works. If you follow along you will lose weight. The diet book has some great tips on how to stay on the diet and help you lose weight. If you need to go to a weekly meeting for support, well you know those are available to you. I have my mother who is also on this program for support. I am glad I started this diet and I intend to continue as long as I can. I recommend this diet to any one who wants to lose weight.
