mjgroff's Full Review: Braun Syncro 7505 Electric Shaver
For years I used a Philips/Philishave two head rotary shaver (same as Norelco in U.S.). I have sensitive skin on my neck and found it would always get irritated. When it came time to replace the blades again, and found they cost more than the shaver, I decided to try a new model. I was under the impression the rotary shavers worked better. The only foil shaver I had tried, a Remington, worked poorly. But I was impressed with the style and features of the Braun and bought it thinking I could always return it if it didn't work well. I have been very satisfied. It shaves as closer than the Philishave without irritation. It shaves faster as well.
-Syncro System
Braun shavers in the Syncro line use a vibrating foil in addition to a vibrating blade. This helps get hair into the holes in the foil. I compare it to shaking a sieve to help sugar, flower, salt, etc go through. In theory, the vibrating foil works the hair through the holes in the foil. I don't have a regular foil shaver to compare with to validate this theory.
-Quality battery
The shaver uses Ni-Hyd batteries (built-in). This are more sophisticated than Ni-Cads rechargables. They aren't as likely to develop a memory so you don't have to worry about fully discharging before recharging. This is a convenient feature.
-Battery Life
The shaver operates for two to three weeks of daily use on a single charge.
-Runs off cord
If the battery is dead you can operate the shaver by plugging it in. This is great if you run out of charge and can't wait to recharge it.
-More affordable blades
A replacement blade is ridiculously expensive but it is significantly less ridiculous than a set of three heads for a rotary shaver.
-Easy to Clean
To clean all you have to do is pop up the foil and run the shaver over a sink/garbage. You don't have to remove anything.
-Liquid Cleaning???
This is the low end shaver in the Syncro series. The other models come with a cleaning station. It is a bath of cleaning solution you insert the shaver into and it is automatically run for a short period. I don't have this and question whether it really helps or if it just designed to sell cleaning solution. You could buy some shaver cleaner and put it in a dish, insert the shaver, run it for a few seconds and have the same effect.
-Beard Trimmer
The pop up beard trimmer works well, quickly cutting coarse hair.
-More Good Points
The shaver is quiet and light weight. It easily fits into its carrying pouch.
I recommend this shaver for all the reasons above. It is quite expensive but is the cheapest in the Syncro line and I don't believe it is missing any features that are worth spending more for. Specifically, I don't need charge indicators. If I am suprised by running out of power I can just plug it in. And other than the indicators the only missing feature with this model is the cleaning station. I would spend $10 more for it but not the $30 being charged in my area.
