HHR - A better PT Cruiser?

by shoplmart shoplmart is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Oct 23 '05 - Updated Nov 21 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Fuel economy, Smooth ride, Exterior styling..
Cons: Acceleration more for point A-B transport, Interior quality and design, Price of options.
The Bottom Line: The HHR has a lot of potential, unfortunately GM still has a long way to go with this one..

The PT Cruiser, especially in GT trim, is one of my favorite utility wagons on the road. The PT GT is quick, good looking, offers good utility, and a fair price tag. That said, the all-new Chevrolet HHR (High Heritage Roof) retro wagon didn’t exactly ...

HHR: More Fun To Look At Than To Drive, But A Decent Compact Wagon.

by drive571 drive571 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Nov 22 '05 - Updated Dec 24 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great styling, unique view out, versatile cabin, mild and pleasant ride.
Cons: Decaf acceleration, feathery steering, some ergonomic annoyances, and a mooing exhaust note.
The Bottom Line: Like the PT Cruiser, the HHR is a likeable small wagon competing with several other likeable small wagons. If you love the looks, go for it. Otherwise, shop around.

My Experience Imagine, for a minute, that you're an automobile manufacturer who's fallen on hard times. Small cars are gaining market share, Chrysler's PT Cruiser has become a huge hit, and now you're hurting for a "cool" compact wagon of your ...

Any reason to buy this PT Cruiser knock-off?

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Aug 11 '05 - Updated Sep 20 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smoother and quieter ride, more refined engine, more macho styling, driving position
Cons: Not as cute, no performance engine option, numb steering, more lean in turns
The Bottom Line: Largely a me-too product that breaks no new ground, the HHR's main advantage over the PT Cruiser is a smoother, quieter ride.

My wife isn't much of a car person, but the especially cute ones nevertheless capture her attention. She wanted VW New Beetle when they first came out, but she also wanted to start a family. So functionality, or a lack of the same, nixed the VW. ...

Stylish Retro-Missed Opportunity

by chapol
Jul 04 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The HHR is an eye catching vehicle offering a roomy interior and relatively smooth ride.
Cons: The interior design is bland. Gauges, seats, ergonametrics, etc. need a lot of work.
The Bottom Line: Only recommended for teenagers looking to impress or short-drive delivery persons.

The title says it all for this new addition to the Chevy lineup for 2005-2006. Even though this machine obviously copies the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which has been a big success, the HHR doesn't quite make it especially inside the cabin. To be ...

Surprisingly smooth and quiet

by basiliskst
Oct 07 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Truly great variable valve timing, multi-point fuel injection engine and fun styling inside and out.
Cons: Styling compromises visibility, sub par cup holders, no stability control, no disc brakes in back.
The Bottom Line: Strong buy recommendation. The HHR is a winning combination of style, efficiency and value.

The Chevy HHR LT2 with the new 2.4 liter Ecotech variable valve timing engine is surprisingly smooth and quiet for a four cylinder small car. Essentially the wagon version of the Cobalt, the HHR benefits from a proven and popular platform, but adds fun ...

How good is the PT Cruiser Wannabe?

by tomcruzcontrol
May 09 '06 - Updated May 11 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: spacious interior, quiet at low revs, cushy ride, some appealing styling cues
Cons: sickly exhaust note at medium to high revs, often viewed as a "me too" car
The Bottom Line: If you like the PT Cruiser but have Chevy brand loyalty, your vehicle has arrived.

INTRODUCTION AND INTERIOR I test drove the 2006 Chevrolet HHR. HHR stands for Heritage High Roof, and is modeled after the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban. To view it a more callous and cynical way, it's GM's painfully obvious attempt to cash in on ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability, interior comfort, heated seats, leather, economy and practicality
Cons: Light colored carpeting, underpowered, lack of storage compartments inside
The Bottom Line: This vehicle is definitely worth it's money. Looks great too.

I just traded my 2006 Chevrolet HHR in for a bigger 2004 GMC Yukon, because i needed more space for my growing family, but I believe that one year spent with this car, qualifies me to write a fairly complete review on it. I had this car for a year, and ...

Probably the Worst Car Ever Made

by simplemoney Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Nov 02 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lots of storage space, good mpg
Cons: No Sirius radio, lacks powerful engine
The Bottom Line: A great car if you don't like big Cadillacs.

Those are the exact words my Dad used after my test drive of the Chevy HHR. He elaborated by saying it was too small, not comfortable, poorly laid out controls and just plain ugly. My response - I bought it. Road Manners The HHR is a small ...

Consider it for your needs not just styling.

Nov 26 '05 - Updated Nov 30 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Decent mileage. Very practical. Good price. Comforts plentiful, even in base.
Cons: Human factors could be better. A few new-model pains. Powertrain warantee less than others.
The Bottom Line: Well worth consideration. Meets the needs and budget of most small families.

The HHR is a bit taller than most compact wagons, gets far better mileage than small SUVs. I've never been a speed daemon or fashion queen. So neither g-forces nor styling are all that important to me. We use our vehicles as transportation for us ...

Style, sass and great on gas

by thebirdguy
Oct 18 '05 - Updated Oct 22 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nifty styling. Good gas mileage. Plenty of pep. Great fit and finish.
Cons: Hate the window switch position. Selling at full sticker.
The Bottom Line: A very good value, even at full sticker. Avoid the 2.2 liter. The 2.4 liter is the only way to fly. This little bruiser outshines the competition.

My HHR (2LT package - 2.4 liter, sport suspension, automatic, 17-inch wheels & tires) is surprisingly gutsy for an in-line four. I'm delighted with the performance from the 172 HP engine. This isn't my Jag or V-8 Ford Explorer, but the HHR gets up and ...

It's a Keeper!!!

Nov 11 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style. Great ride, handling. Very good power, acceleration. Good cargo space. Fun to drive.
Cons: Cheap interior materials, flimsy plastics, inferior cloth materials, insufficient storage compartments/trays.
The Bottom Line: I recommend the HHR for those wanting an economic yet sporty vehicle for in town and shorter distance driving. A stylish yet practical vehicle with power and stability.

I had been considering buying a new car for several months. While on vacation recently I rented a new car, got the bug to buy and decided that it was time to find my dream car once I returned home. After seeing an ad for the 2006 HHR, I decided to go ...

A Traveling Torture

by alskx3
Oct 09 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: There isn't anything I can identify.
Cons: Cheap-looking interior, poor design and controls.
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this vehicle. If it looks cheap, it is probably cheaply made.

We had the misfortune of renting this car through a major rental car company to drive on a recent business trip. The car we requested wasn't available, and the rental car company put us into this boxy misconception. I've never been a fan of the PT ...

Long Live the Lead Sled

by jupitertom
Apr 03 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style, functionality, ride/handling, comfortable seating, sound system, gas mileage.
Cons: Cheap interior, power window button placement, limited cubbies to store small items up front.
The Bottom Line: With gas approaching $3.00 per gallon my HHR does almost everything my SUV did at a fraction of the price. Long live the Lead Sled!

The HHR is one of those cars that is sure to evoke an opinion. You either love the style or hate it, but everyone is sure to look. Personally I love it. I think this car looks great from every angle. Too many cars today lack personality, the HHR ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: GAS MILEAGE!! Looks. Quite ride.
Cons: Window control placement, blind spots and visibility. Storage in the front.
The Bottom Line: Final recommendation is buy it! If you can get used to the "little things" that to me personally don't make that much difference, I believe you will really like it!

I traded my 4 X 4 pickup in because I needed to get better gas mileage. I'm on my first tank of gas and I have gotten about 258 miles to the first 1/2 tank!!! Needless to say I am impressed as all get out thus far! I just hope it stays that way. Lots of ...

Same car?

Sep 16 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: It MUST be cheap. I wouldn't pay more than 15K for one.
Cons: Too many to list.
The Bottom Line: Another sub-par GM product.. watching them sadly, slowly, die.

This car is absolute rubbish. Reviewiers here who like it, have you driven any European or Japanese cars, ever? I have the misfortune to be renting one and impressions are bad. Styling is a matter of taste so I won't comment except to say the view out ...
