Pros: Go-kart thrills to match the Miata, plus grippier handling and a more-mature demeanor. Cons: Too-tall gearing and a grumbly drivetrain detract from straight-line performance. Ergonomic irritations abound. The Bottom Line: Comparing the Miata and Solstice pits delicate balance against reassuring confidence, and function against form. It's hard to say which is better--these cars are more evenly-matched than I anticipated.
My Experience According to the esteemed annals of Dictionary.com, Solstice--aside from its astronomical significance--is defined as "a highest point or culmination." I'll vouch for that. Although Pontiac's new Solstice roadster isn't ...

Pros: Stunningly Good Looks, Timeless Design, Tremendous Potential for Fun Fun Fun Cons: Rather Underpowered, This Will be Fixed w Fall Debut of GXP Model!!! The Bottom Line: I love this car's looks, and I do NOT hate it for being underpowered, I just wish it had more... A superb fun-ster... GXP will be a welcomed Sibling!
Before I get started here, let me just say that of all the GM brands, at least for the last decade, Pontiac has made me feel quite alienated! I mean, it's been at least 10 good years since I've found anything really "exciting" going on at Pontiac, yet ...

Pros: beauty, handling , and sheer fun Cons: not one second of my ownership has car been free of defects The Bottom Line: This is a new model year so there were bound to be problems.
If you buy one keep your service records. I still might buy another one.
It was love at first sight. I had to have a Pontiac Solstice. While I waited for one to be available I test drove a BMW Z3, an Audi TT, and a Honda S2000. There are definitely features of each that are admirable but none of them can compare to the ...

Pros: styling, almost a good car, but not quite. Cons: read my review again... you'll see them. weatherstripping on windscreen tears from top pins. The Bottom Line: Any year Miata is more fun & livable, but GM could have a very good product if they spend more money on R&D
They were close... what they got right was the styling, I've heard people are buying them without even driving them! That says something about how passionate people are about the way they look. CONS: Aside from that, the car is typical of GM ...

Pros: Style, suspension and handling, Monsoon sound system, top design, Style Cons: Storage, trunk space, The Bottom Line: This is a roadster and may require additional vehicles or friends to move anything besides your attitude.
I have had the Pontiac Solstice for 40 days and 1500 miles as a daily driver. During this get acquainted period I have found the Solstice to be just what GM designed and marketed; a roadster. The daily commute is for two, with a brief case ...

Pros: Solid, nice suspension Cons: Noise, no trunk The Bottom Line: I think GM did a better job than in the past, but they are still far from the finish and quality level of the Japanese imports.
The Pontiac Solstice The first disappointment was to see a big bulge in the already small trunk, taking about 40 percent of the space and making it impossible to put in any small luggage. It was the transmission and differential box. Well, even if it ...

Pros: The way it makes you feel when you drive it!
Price, Design/Styling, GM made. Cons: Envious Neighbors. Envious, strangers who might
think I some rich dude. Cold winter nights? :o) The Bottom Line: If the shoe doesn't fit, don't buy it. But, if it fits like
a glove, fall in love! BUY IT!
For 9 wonderful years, I owned a second hand 1976 MGB. I've missed that care ever since I got rid of it in a fit rage. MG owners will relate to this...... It left me on the side of the road one too many times..... Electrical problems....multiple ...

Pros: Handling, Looks, Decent Gas Mileage. Cons: Rampant Differential Problems, No Storage, Top Operation. The Bottom Line: A fun, beautiful car! Watch the differential, though. Try to get a 2007 or later for the longer warranty protection.
I purchased a used 2006 Pontiac Solstice, recently. You can read lots of other reviews that give you a general idea about the car. Great handling, good looks, etc. It's true! Anyway, what you may not know are all the differential problems these ...

Update 11-19-2006: I haven't bought one yet, but have just finished my refinancing of my mortgage. An ad the other day said that the Solstice is now in stock at the Anaheim Pontiac Dealer. I need a red one. This is a vehicle to be reckoned with. Scary. ...

My "Second" Dream Car!

Pros: The head-turning, attention-getting good looks that draws a crowd wherever I go! Cons: Totally Impractical.. but who Cares?! I'll toss my stuff in a grocery bag when traveling!
Finally the Americans have found that we can come up with a car design that will definitely make heads turn! After years of emulating European auto designs, we have finally stepped up to the front! I bought my first new car, a 1970 Pontiac Lemans Sport because I fell in love with it at first sight! This is the same thing that happened when I saw the Solstice, first at the St. Ignace, Michigan auto show and then at Norwalk, OH at the Pontiac Nationals! I ranted and raved enough about it that my husband, Randy, surprised me with one for Christmas! It's the wonderful detailing, creative styling, and bold statement that this car's design has that sets it apart from the rest and will do so for years to come! Thank you, Pontiac, for having the courage to think out of the box and give car enthusiasts what we've been wanting!

Pros: Tight handling, drop dead style, and a price tag that won't kill the pocketbook. Cons: 177 horsepower is good but the car screams for the Pontiac traditional motor.
GM did a great job and kept the pricing down.
The wait was long but worth it. I have 3500 miles and not a problem.
Handling is tight as a golf cart and totally fun to drive.
Horsepower is good but it will be ever greater with the new turbo version coming out next year. There is also an after-market turbo kit being worked on for the current owners. Or you can opt out for Mallet's 400 horsepower V-8 if you have the cash.
Styling blows away the competition. If you can get a hold of one to test drive you will fall in love.
GM has a winner and sales proves it.
In the last month there has been 5 companies getting ready to launch there roadsters into the market. My advise is for them to give it up--your cars are ugly and will not touch the fenders of this car.
I am a member of the www.solsticeforum.com site and come check it out for excellent reviews from owners--not automakers. My user is"WantMySoltice" and glad to be a member for such a informative website.

Refined Roadster

Pros: Great looks, good ride (for a roadster), good feel. I love the gauges and dials. Cons: More pep. Storage spaces. Wind screen between the "humps" is a must.
This car has a lot of character. The outward opening hood and trunk draw lots of attention and the unique styling is sure to draw a crowd. The car has wonderful road manners and provides a quite refined feel for a roadster. As a 2001 Miata owner, I find the Solstice much more quiet an pleasant to cruise the town. Granted, the Miata has more of a "roadster" feel and it feels lighter and more nimble. The Pontiac does have some spunk, but you find it at the upper end of the RPM band. With a little coaxing, the Solstice comes alive. Having had both the Solstice and the Miata, I find the Solstice's top operation is not as big of a detractor as one may think. It is certainly more difficult, but that just gives curious observers more time to compliment you on your beautiful car. As for space, where there is a will, there is a way. It is afterall a roadster. I have managed weekly grocery runs and it works. Overall, the more I drive it, the more I like it. I suspect few of the harsh critics have taken more than a brief test drive.

Pros: Attention getter, Quick, Sporty, Exhilarating, Fun, Fantastic Cons: none
This car is nothing less then amazing!!! My son spotted the concept back in 2002 and we have waited 4 long years for the arrival of this gem. No of the reviews really matter until you drive this car. The Solstice scoots around town with more then adequate horsepower. She handles like a true roadster should handle. My words just can't do this car justice... you have to drive one for yourself to understand what I'm saying.

Right on the money, Pontiac!

Pros: Exceptional handling, looks, drive train that just keeps getting more responsive as it breaks in. Cons: Haven't found any, although gawkers can be a problem!
Responsive, great fit & finish, unmatched styling, all packed in a fabulous roadster-it's about time! Great highway cruiser, top up or down, worth every day of the wait for delivery. Yes, I was one who ordered the Solstice without seeing or driving one, and Pontiac did not let me down. Quick short shift throws, this one begs to be driven, and driven hard. Professional reviewers complain about the top operation, which takes about 2.5 minutes to drop and stow, and install my aftermarket Kappasphere windscreen.
You'll either love it or hate it, I love mine, see you on the road!!

This is Pontiac's Renaissance

Pros: Great exterior styling. Nice dual clamshell openings for the trunk AND hood. Beautiful execution overall. Cons: Needs more oooomph. Needs a more refined drivetrain. A 6 speed tranny would be nice.
The Solstice is Bob Lutz's gift to the Pontiac faithful and to those who never thought of owning an American roadster. This cars has so many positives, but it is not perfect. It is the most beautiful 2 seat convertible I have seen in quite a while. The curves and exterior design are drop dead gorgeous and the way the wheels feel the wheel-well openings is a sight in itself. The car handles better than cars twice its price, has a great yet simple interior design, and a more potent engine offering in the GXP model is soon forthcoming. I just wish they had the power of the GXP model now, as I bought mine in November after ordering it in April.

The Prom Queen was a Tease

Pros: Unmatched looks and styling Cons: Engine Power
3000 miles later city and highway leaves me mostly disappointment and regretful for having purchased the 2006 Solstice at a premium. The metaphor is sort of like the title - looks like a prom queen but all you'll get is a never ending tease from her, leading to frustration and ultimately prompting you to look for someone else to date long term. This is the ultimate American nightmare on wheels and I would strongly caution everyone who has one, or plans on purchasing one to temper your long term expectations and consider a turbo kit (plan on $5,000+ and saying goodbye to your GM warranty) if you want something other than casual strolls about town in this buggy.
