Pros: Gas mileage, overall refinement, driveing dynamics Cons: Price is a little steep compared to competition. The Bottom Line: The TDI is powerful, solid, fun to drive, and offers a high quality interior that makes its 22K base price tag a downright bargain.
When VW redesigned the Jetta in 2005, the TDI trim level boasted excellent fuel economy, but its tiny 100 horsepower diesel engine felt anemic in the Jetta's larger and heavier shell. This engine also could have used some improvements in the refinement ...

Pros: Silky, powerful diesel. Cleaner than a gasser emissions. Cons: High cost of DSG upkeep The Bottom Line: Bulit like all cars of German heritage. Solid and reliable. I highly recommend the TDi version of the Jetta.
I bought my 2009 Jetta Tdi the day they became officially available for sale. It was purely an accident that I was in the dealership that day. My 2006 Jetta Tdi was in to have the battery replaced under warranty when I saw the white demo Tdi ...

Pros: Smooth powerful engine with slick 6M trans, good mileage, free oil changes for 3 years. Cons: Slightly spongy electronic throttle tip in and slightly jittery ride.
I just had to get this Jetta "Wolfsburg Edition" with the silky smooth turbocharged engine. That along with a slick 6 speed stick and sharp handling make this a blast to drive and even after gas goes back up to $4. per gallon I won't feel too guilty as I get well over 30 mpg on the highway. The interior is a bit spartan (I prefer minimalist) but very nicely done and the exterior is stunning in "Salsa red." Driving dynamics as good as it gets for $22K! Feb, 4 update: The more I drive this car the wider my smile gets. I have adjusted to the electronic throttle and jittery ride (which is as expected for a light car with 17 inch wheels and low profile tires after all). My previous car, a 2005 Infinity G35, was a tough act to follow! I still get the stunning acceleration along with significantly better mileage--from a local driving average of 19mpg with the G35 to 27mpg with the Jetta. Not only that but the little 2 liter turbo engine is much smoother than the vaunted Infinity VQ series V6. This one's a keeper!
