It can be improved upon, but man I love this thing!

by darksentinel , Aug 12 '01
Pros: Great sound. Line output All your favorite songs with you.
Cons: Doesn't like 700 MB discs. Not ergonomic
I only intended to purchase a plain old $30 CD player for my strolls in the park, but my wife knew that I wanted an MP3 player and, like all dream wives, forced me to buy the $79 Memorex MPD8505CP. I wanted a CD-based MP3 player because I didn’t want to...

A great portable choice!

by OCBTracker , Jun 08 '01
Pros: Good battery life, CDR/CDRW reading, anti-skip, car/home power adapters, tape adapter, headphones
Cons: Occational skip, sometimes hard to find songs, quirky programing
Memorex Model MPD8505CP MP3 Personel CD Player

Ever since the first models showed up in the orient, I wanted one. Desperately. But whenever the opportunity came up to purchase one, I was low on funds, and was unable to afford it. Luckily, I...

A good mp3 player but not a keeper

by dg1201 , Aug 20 '01
Pros: plays my growing pile of mp3 CD's!! YES!
Cons: a bit slow in mp3 mode, no hold button, quirky menus.
8.20I got this yesterday from Target for $99. I had previously bought a regular portable CD player w/car kit 31 days ago and my friend told me that I should just get a CD player that can play mp3 CD's. I thought, what a brilliant idea since I have...

Good price, not so good product

by buckc , Jun 14 '01
Pros: Good Price. Car Adapter kit included. Directory Search
Cons: Skips frequently, poor sound quality, cumbersome directory navigation, no software
After researching several of the options of mp3 players, I settled on the Memorex. This was mostly due to the price ($89.99 at Target), and the included car kit. Car kits alone cost around $30, so this seemed like a no brainer. Unfortunately, this is...

A great player for a great price

by bigelephant , Apr 04 '01
Pros: Alphanumeric display, reads CDRW, filename search, inexpensive, good anti-skip
Cons: Battery life, size, no hold switch, requires CD-R
Most of the people getting into the portable MP3 player scene are frustrated with the players. Generally, portable MP3 players hold only one CD's worth of music at a very low bitrate/quality. Some have removable flash media, but it is ridiculously...

Resume feature does not work!!!

by hank99 , Oct 28 '01
Pros: Reads mp3 files ripped at sampling rates below 44khz (eg. 22.5khz)
Cons: The advertized resume button does not work!!!
I have bought this unit twice thinking the orginal unit had a faulty "resume" button. Unfortunately, the second unit suffered the same flaw, and I have read similar reviews indicating the same "defect".

While I applaud this unit for being...

Perfect for long trips!

by endurance , Jul 20 '02
Pros: Carry 700mb of mp3's around, great for TAPE only cars.
Cons: Small ID3 tag area, slow startup.
One thing about trips is if you have a CD player you tend to swap out CD's now and again, but with this CD player you can put in 1 CD and listen for hours.

In a whim to have something for an upgrade from my Diamond Rio 300PMP I saw this CD...

Not such a great machine

by sfliny , Jun 24 '01
Pros: Sturdy Case, nice accessories, good price
Cons: Using keypad is cumbersome, no remote, no backlit LED
Based on other opinions on E-opinions, I decided to purchase this unit at Target. It was on sale for $89.00 and I thought it would be a good buy. I was excited at first to play my mp3 discs, but somehow after using it for a week I decided to return it....
