Pros: fascinating look at the real John Nash Cons: Irritating endnotes and a bit tough to read for non-mathematicians.
I was drawn to purchase A Beautiful Mind: The Life of Mathematical Genius and Nobel Laureate John Nash by Sylvia Nasar because I was utterly fascinated by the movie. I was hoping the book would clear up a few points of confusion I had, and give...
Pros: Thorough research, clear prose, fascinating life. Cons: Sometimes material is dry. More suitable for thinking than entertainment.
Even though I picked A Beautiful Mind: The Life of Mathematical Genius and Novel Laureate John Nash the day after I saw the film, I must warn the reader: I'm a total glutton for genius stories. This purchase would have been done movie or no...
Pros: Very well rounded biography...fascinating...good human touches Cons: some sections may be too dry or technical...ok to skim

Pros: Great insight into John Nash's life Cons: Too technical in a lot of parts
I had seen A Beautiful Mind, the movie, and I absolutely loved it! Since the book is usually better than the movie, I decided to read the book. This was one book I could not get into. Don't get me wrong, I did read the entire thing but it was unbelievably painful. The author went into so much detail concerning mathematical theories that I was lost through most of the book. I suppose you can't really write a biography about John Nash without including the theories but, it lost me most of the way. I would rather see the movie any day! If you can deal with all the talk about theories, then this is a good book. Otherwise, skip the book and watch the movie.
