Pros: easy setup, handsome packaging, good high and midrange Cons: distorted bass
Despite my faithful portable JVC boombox was still alive and well after some 13 years of service, I decided to get some speakers with more bass to play MP3 files on my computer. Off I went to Costco and found the Altec Lansing speakers are available for...
Pros: sound, price, looks Cons: sub gets distorted when turned up
I finally saved enough money to get myself a computer, I used to always use the family computer which I used to hog all the time and used to drive me crazy when I was playing a game, or typing an email that I had to get up and find something else to do. ...
Pros: Great Sound, Good looks, easy hook-up Cons: Bass a little overpowering
Well after buying a new computer box, I decided it was time to upgrade my speaker system from the cheap media speakers that came with my old outdated computer.
Pros: excellent bass, great quality, and more! Cons: wires just a bit to short (for me)
I just bought my pair of Altec Lansing 211 speakers, and I must say it's really incredible! The subwoofer that comes with this piece may look small but is very powerfull! And the other 2 speakers are also small but again very powerful. To me it was worth...
Pros: Clean and clear sound. Bass gives good thumping! Cons: None...
Altec Lansing is the Mercedes-Benz of speakers... it looks good, sounds good and it's worth the money. Before these i had the Logitech Z-340, i got it for the same price. After trying out both of them the Altec Lansing comes out on top for cleaner and...
Pros: Billowing sound, astounding looks, the best price, operation?--a breeze! Cons: Not many cons- I'm just regretful that I couldn't get them sooner!
I had just received a new computer, but it didn't come with any speakers. After encountering my uncle, he recommended this pair of speakers. He saw them at Sams C!ub for only 35.00! Almost immediately we drove down there and picked up a pair.
I...
Pros: Clear, loud, cheap, nice sound Cons: Bass distorts a little at higher volumes
I just bought the VS 2121cb package from Costco. For 39.99 it included the 3 main speakers plus a pair of headphones and a stereo RCA to headphone(FF) adapter. I was very impressed with the sound. Granted the base doesn't pound your chest and tends to ...
Pros: nice and compact, very cheap, great sound for the dollar Cons: not expandable
i use a very nice sony vaio laptop in my dorm at cal poly, san luis obispo. in other words, it's tiny in here. i'd say that my stock speakers with a compact subwoofer does sound good for the small output it has. however, i needed something much more...
Pros: Best bass response of any sub $150 speaker set. Clean and no distortion. Cons: Can pick up feedback from my big monitor.
When I went to the computer store I must have listened to 20 different speaker / sub sets head to head on the shelf. The experience went kind of like this:
"tinny", "distortion", "ugly", "flimsy", "even more tinny", "WOW!", "no volume control",...
Pros: Great Price, Nice Sound & Looks Cons: Sub can get "boomy", no remote controls for sub/volume
The Altec Lansing 221 (sub and 2 satellite speaker system) is an nice speaker package for it's price. My main comparison system was the Monsoon Planar Media 9 that was available for listening at the local electronics store. Side by side at the store, I...
Pros: power switch on right speaker, volume control on speaker Cons: bass is too strong, midrange and hi tones are muddy
I bought these speakers on sale, and I thought I was getting a good value. My last set were the pair of Creative Inspire 2.1 2100, which I migrated to my turntable + mixers setup. My gripes are that the left and right speakers are attached by a ...
Pros: Good clear bass. No rattling bass sound. Expensive sound system for $50 Cons: Wish it had 2 extra speakers (rear)...pay the $20 and you can have them.. :)
I got the speakers for $50. I was going to get some others ($25) but the sound has a warm bass that is not only clear but pleasing to the ears. This is a must. I keep asking others if this was the best system for my money but, I already know the...
Pros: Nice form factor, color. Great price. Excellent mid-high frequency response and stereo imaging. Cons: No bass/treb controls or (especially) sub bass control
Trivial to set up. Enviro friendly packaging. My PC is in the corner of the office up and the best place for the sub is in the corner of the room. As most stereophiles know, that's going to give you several dB boost to bass. This unit doesn't need...
I bought these speakers for an old computer I was planning to only use to play MP3s. I was initially very pleased with their sound reproduction for the price. The drawback I discovered over time was that the sub-woofer sounded poor with songs with a lot of bass. The bass reproduction was poor and inadequate at higher volumes. I was able to adjust for this with my MP3 players equalizer. But the lack of a bass adjustment on the speakers themselves is unfortunate. (I've replaced them with the Harman/Kardon 595 speakers, and they are much better.)
Pros: Sound terrific for the money. I'd pay even more for them. Cons: Not quite as loud as higher-end speakers.
I got these speakers for my birthday from my wife and love them.
I was going to buy a similar speaker set by Klipsch because a friend had them and they sounded great. They are very high-end and cost a lot of money so my wife didn't like the idea. I didn't get them. Instead, she bought these for me.
I was not happy at first but didn't want to appear ungrateful so I hooked them up. I have to say that I was not so disappointed after hearing them. My first impression was too much low quality bass. After a little tweaking and positioning of the sub woofer under my desk I am satisfied with them.
While these may not be high-end audiophile speakers, they sure do sound great and definitely fit the bill for PC speakers. I'm pretty sure that even an audiophile would agree that these speakers are impressive for what they are.
I love to listen to music (loudly at times) while working at home and my son loves to blast his video games. We are both happy with these speakers.
I've had them for about two years now and they are still going strong.
Pros: Clear sound
Lots of bass
Stylish looks
Fool proof
Quite powerful Cons: A bit raspy if listened to closely
I bought a set of Altec Lansing 221 speakers with my computer a few months ago. They are great! They provide me with crisp and powerful sound with tons of bass!
Although I'm sure there are more powerful speakers out there, if you are looking for a well rounded package for everyday purposes, this is a great package. The only potential con I heard was a bit of rasp on certain notes but you have to listen very closely to hear it.
Altec's are great! I love turning up the music and hearing the sub woofer booming. They're something to be proud of!
Great buy but find lots of vibrations at extreme ranges by waltergf ,Jul 06 '05
Pros: Attractive, easy to install, consume little room, great price, nice sound separation, etc., etc., etc. Cons: Cannot reproduce very low or high sounds, no ability to adjust bass or treble.
I was drawn to the speakers based on pricing and looks and my tech son in law's advice (which is normally on target) but I find that with Windows Media and music from Comcast cable, the sound becomes distorted and it sounds like interference in the speakers. I am very sensitive to sounds so it has become troublesome. I am now in search of better speakers even if it means 4 times what I originally paid for these.
Have had it for a long while. Thinking of adding another set. Great sounds. Background sound level or a bit loud still sounds fine. Just a great buy. Anytime of day.
Ok for new users but way underpowered for vets! by kennyv281 ,Sep 26 '03
Pros: Price, looks, ease of installation. Cons: underpowered, no bass control, weak sounding.
I bought these thinking they were going to be better than the Monsoon MH500's I already had but they aren't even close! The Monsoon's sound outstanding while these sound cheap. It would help if these Altec's maybe had a bass control on the subwoofer. The satellite speakers are "hissy" and have too much treble to them.
