eMac: A is for Apple, E is for Education, L is for Love

by pluckyduck Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 10 '02
Pros: affordable G4 system, flat 17" screen, compact design
Cons: no DVD drive on mine, very weighty
The official Apple release at eMac’s introduction at the end of April, told folks (in effect) -- The “e” in eMac stands for “education”. We designed this for educational institutions. We’re selling this only for education. If you aren’t in education,...

Serendipit-eMac

by Syd_Kick , Jul 23 '02
Pros: Hardware: G4 | 17" Flat Screen | EtherNet Software: OSX | iPhoto | iTunes
Cons: Some care needed in loading older Applications, configuring peripheral devices.
I was VERY disappointed and VERY upset, but it was my own fault. I had waited and waited to upgrade to a "classic" iMac, hoping to get a great deal on a close-out, since the new iMac (flat panel on a dome) was bound to be the rage. I placed my order with...

The Volkswagen of Computers

by annaread , Nov 18 '02
Pros: Nice looking, easy to start up, simple to operate computer.
Cons: I missed having a floppy drive.
Because all the work I do is pro bono, I'm pretty slow to upgrade. I had been puttering along quite happily with my G3/300, even though I knew that processing speed and hard disk size was becoming something of a problem.

When the eMac came...

Happy eMac Owner

by spamaroid , Sep 13 '02
Pros: Fast computer with an absolutely gorgeous screen.
Cons: Lack of expandability (though I'm sure somebody will figure something out in 3 years).
I purchased one of the original Bondi Blue iMacs in November 1998 and it chugged along fine up until January 2002 when the power logic analog board went out. I debated buying a new computer then because the repair was in the $300 range. Well, I decided...

Great value - but not for everyone

by mteqc , Sep 07 '02
Pros: Affordable and powerful consumer-grade G4. Large screen.
Cons: Lack of expandability.
If there was a time when dreams of a large screen and G4-driven iMac populated the nights of many fans (and fueled the rumor mills of many web sites), it may be an idea ready for retirement. First designed to be a cheap yet powerful solution for the...

ROCK SOLID MAC

by brsc , Oct 17 '02
Pros: EASY SET UP, BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
Cons: SLIGHT LEARNING CURVE
I bought the 700mhz eMac from CompUSA after I spent about a day playing with the display unit. I liked the iMacs and the other G4's but the eMac just made more sense. Practical, compact and easy to use.

I found it a 100x easier to install...

Great machine

by maelsson , Oct 19 '02
Pros: Fast consumer-G4, looks great
Cons: a few video issues
I bought the SuperDrive model, with the DVD/CD burner. This machine works great! The display is beautiful, has adequate HD space, good amount of RAM (I upgraded to 768 MB, though). Setup was easy, and without complaint. This is my 6th mac, but my first...

Not as good as it seems

by skitch , Dec 02 '02
Pros: Mac OS X, Speakers
Cons: Faulty Monitor Troubles, Weight
Well, yes, it is a screaming deal, but, If you have problems with it, good luck. I bought mine at the Apple Store Mall of America, and their help has been less than perfect. I'm still fighting the charges with Apple. I received a bad monitor assembly,...

Struck by Lightning

by jnaglich , Aug 24 '02
Pros: Fast, Low Cost, Good Looks. CD rw/DVD rom
Cons: OS X, OS 9 switching needed to use my current Epson printer
This is a really fun, good looking, fast machine. This is the sixth Mac I have owned and this is definately the fastest easiest to use of any. It only took a few minutes to get the machine out of the box hooked up and checking my email. You could say...

A cheap friend

by antoniogodino , Apr 29 '03
Pros: Beautiful, fast, simple (can boot on MACOS 9), affordable.
Cons: I had some problems with the monitor.
really user friendly, very simple to manage and rather quick. It is true for MACS in general but is a little more true for the E-Mac. A quick processor, a beautiful design, a vast amount of functionalities for not a lot of money...

bad shipments

by speshalguy , Sep 09 '02
Pros: good value
Cons: broken
I bought the e-mac three weeks ago. I love Apple, but our e-mac broke down the day we bought it.

I called Apple customer service. I figured I could get it fixed or replaced, since it's under Apple Care's Warranty. They gave me a "case...

Even Grandma can use it!

by teresakeck , Nov 05 '02
Pros: Easy to set up, can watch movies and play music on DVD, and compact.
Cons: heavy, somewhat of a learning curve for us IBM users.
My husband (a true saint) bought and set up the eMAC for my 78 year old web surfing Grandma. She loves it! She really likes the compact style, and playing music and movies on the DVD player. There was a bit of a learning curve for all of us, as we are...

An imac for the conservative

by labandion , Sep 01 '02
Pros: User friendly design, compact and very elegant, good for the experts and the computer illiterate
Cons: With the introduction of the new imacs this heavy beast pales in comparison
Macs are classics much like a classic car , with age they only become finer as collectors editions,This emac much like an imac is greater than the original imacs but lesser than the new editions , i would suggest it to anyone who is wanting to test drive...

A great machine
by melvin4225225 ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: Intuitive operation, great applications included
Cons: Noisy
Bought about a year ago with superdrive for $1400. They are much cheaper now. Have had no problems with use. Has occasionally frozen requiring restarts, nothing major. The Apple applications such as iPhoto, iTunes etc are wonderful and full of hidden positive surprises and efficiencies. Almost everything I try with my Dell/windowsXP is full of unexpected obstacles. I used to like my Mac until I was talked into a windows laptop. Now I love the Mac.

I Love My eMac
by Merrill ,Dec 14 '03
Pros: Price. Operating system. Fits nicely on my desk. Great monitor.
Cons: The mouse.
After owning 3 different PC's, and having 3 versions of Windows "corrupt" for no apparent reason, I gave up. I joined the ranks of happy Mac owners, and after a year and a half, I still love my eMac.

It's a great value for the money ($300 less than what I paid for it at this point), easy to use, has beautiful, clear graphics, and good support. I purchased my eMac from a local Mac store, who has been very patient and cheerful everytime I called with questions.

The only thing I dislike about the computer is the optical mouse it came with. The mouse causes the cursor to occasionally fly around the screen. Maybe it's just restless, maybe I don't pay enough attention to my mouse. I also wish I had the dvd drive, which I was too cheap to buy.

love da' apple
by kweequek ,Mar 07 '05
Pros: It is an apple, not a dell
Cons: Does not return the love, I always have to beg :)
I love my computer. What more is there to say. It is a mac, it has it's moments of instability. But there are NEVER any weird blue screens with scary messages like, fatal error. What the heck is a fatal error? I don't know...cos I have an apple. :)
